Mortal Kombat 2’s Coolest Sub-Zero Theory Is A Lot More Likely Now

Based on new details regarding Mortal Kombat 2, it’s looking more and more likely that the most interesting theory about Sub-Zero will turn out to be true. The success of 2021’s Mortal Kombat led to many theories surrounding locations and characters who might appear in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2. While Mortal Kombat received mixed reception from audiences, it was praised for being a faithful adaptation of the video games that the movie is based on, and for its handling of many beloved characters was also another source of praise.

However, Mortal Kombat was criticized for excluding pivotal characters and locations for reasons that weren’t apparent, thus leading to an influx of Mortal Kombat 2 theories regarding noticeably absent heroes, villains, and locations. With Mortal Kombat 2 in the works, it is possible that the exclusion of certain characters and famous locales from the video games was deliberate, as there were always plans to include them in future installments. Moreover, Bi-Han/Sub-Zero’s death at the hands of Scorpion and Cole in Mortal Kombat‘s climactic battle perfectly sets the stage for more beloved characters and locations to debut in the anticipated sequel.

Set photos for Mortal Kombat 2 tease the Netherrealm’s inclusion in Mortal Kombat 2, which is of extreme importance, considering its relations to Bi-Han/Sub-Zero and the lore of Mortal Kombat in a greater context. The Netherrealm is Mortal Kombat‘s version of Hell and where the series’ most evil characters are sent to after being killed on Earth. This directly ties into Bi-Han as he was sent to the Netherrealm after being killed by Scorpion in the first game’s Mortal Kombat tournament, but eventually returned to Earth as Noob Saibot. If Mortal Kombat 2 follows the games, Bi-Han may appear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Noob Saibot.

Why Noob Saibot Should Appear In Mortal Kombat 2

Noob Saibot inclusion opens the door for more characters, storylines, and locations from the games

Noob Saibot appears in two different forms for the Mortal Kombat video games

Noob Saibot has a very good chance of appearing in Mortal Kombat 2 because his debut goes hand in hand with the movie’s introduction of the Netherrealm. By using him, the sequel would be able to address a major criticism that audiences had for Scorpion in Mortal Kombat. In Mortal Kombat, Hanzo is killed at the beginning of the movie and doesn’t return until the movie’s climax when Cole summons him to help him defeat Sub-Zero. While the scene itself was great, the movie neglected to show how the evil sorcerer Quan-Chi turned Hanzo into Scorpion before ultimately being summoned to assist in the climactic fight.

Noob Saibot, and by association the Netherrealm, appearing in Mortal Kombat 2 would be a boon to the movie because it would prove that Mortal Kombat 2 is going to adapt more of the lore’s dramatic moments and expand the lore. Like Hanzo, Bi-Han was turned into Noob Saibot by Quan Chi, so if Noob Saibot appears in Mortal Kombat 2, there’s a stronger likelihood that Quan Chi will show up as well. Depending on the direction taken by the film, this could also lead to a deeper look at Scorpion’s backstory as well.
