The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion with its highly anticipated Phase Three, beginning in May with Captain America: Civil War and moving on in November with the introduction of the Sorcerer Supreme in Doctor Strange. The latter will also continue the expansion of the cosmic side of the MCU which began with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The cast and crew of Doctor Strange are still hard at work in NYC shooting some action sequences as revealed in a handful of set photos showing Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor in full Stephen Strange and Baron Mordo costume. A big production like this cannot escape curious eyes, and a new batch of on-set photos has surfaced, giving a closer look at Stephen Strange’s look.
Accompanied once more by Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, we see Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme running out from what could very well be the Sanctum Sanctorum, Strange’s residence located in New York’s Greenwich Village. This group of photos also includes Cumberbatch shooting a scene by himself but without the levitation cloak. These photos give a closer look at the details in Cumberbatch’s costume, such as the amulet with the Eye of Agamotto in it – which allows Strange to see through all disguises and illusions – and the seal of the Vishanti over it. There’s no denying in the amount of detail put into it, which will most likely appeal to fans. Other photos included in this group show Cumberbatch coming out of a building covered with a green screen (again, most likely the Sanctum Sanctorum), and director Scott Derrickson next to his leading man.
As we are living in the era of smartphones and social media, fans can expect more photos and videos as long as production keeps shooting in open spaces. All the photos that have surfaced so far haven’t revealed any plot details, but it’s going to be interesting to make the comparison between on-set pictures and the final product.
