Moon Knight: 7 Biggest Reveals From The Latest Trailer

Moon Knight: 7 Biggest Reveals From The Latest Trailer

The Moon Knight series premiere on Disney+ is coming up quickly at the end of March, and Marvel Studios is releasing tons of promotional material to prime viewers for this mysterious new addition to the MCU. The latest trailer dropped on Monday, March 14th, and reveals tons of clues and implications for the dark new show.

This trailer entitled “Secret Agent” features a crucial dialogue between the two protagonist identities, and never before seen footage of the powered-up identities fighting crime.  Between this and the other clips released recently, fans are undoubtedly waxing poetic about Moon Knight.

Marc Knows About Steven But Steven Didn’t Know About Marc

Moon Knight: 7 Biggest Reveals From The Latest Trailer

There are six lines of dialogue in this trailer from a pivotal conversation between Steven and Marc that reveal the relative awareness between these two dissociated identities.  According to closed captioning, Marc Spector’s quote is “Steven, you weren’t supposed to see any of this.” and Steven asks “What are you?”

These lines imply that Marc knows about Steven as an identity, and tried to deliberately obscure this knowledge from him. Steven’s questions for Marc reveal that Steven is completely unaware of Marc, and the audience will likely start with and follow Steven as he learns more about Marc’s chaotic circumstances.

The Two Identities Have Different Nationalities

The trailer shows a close-up of an American passport belonging to one Marc Spector. Considering that Steven Grant, another identity of the main protagonist also played by Oscar Isaac, speaks with a British accent and lives in London, it is likely that he does not consider himself American.

This is a huge revelation because it sets up the extent to which each identity differs from the other. The fact that Marc has official government documentation of citizenship, unbeknownst to Steven, means that Marc’s identity has had lots of autonomy, leaving much for Steven to discover in the show.

Marc Leads a Dangerous Life

Steven, just one of Moon Knight‘s distinct personalities, discovers a stash of Marc’s possessions, including a gun, passport, stacks of cash, and a gold artifact shaped like a scarab.  These are a far cry from the ultra-mundane settings from Steven’s life, like a sleepy commute on public transportation or a job at a museum gift shop.

This can only mean that Marc’s lifestyle and career are vastly different from Steven’s, and more importantly, is much more volatile and dangerous.  The show’s tension will likely arise from Steven learning to cope with elements from Marc Spector’s more treacherous life.

Something Dangerous Is Chasing Steven

In a Moon Knight scene straight out of a horror movie, Steven sprints down a dark hallway with the duffel bag, stealing fearful looks over his shoulder, likely meaning he is running away from a threatening and possibly villainous presence. This scene directly follows the dialogue heard in the trailer, as he is clutching the aforementioned duffel bag filled with the firearm, cash, and golden scarab.

Because this scene follows the moment when Steven first learns of Marc’s existence, this is likely his first foray into the dangerous life Marc leads. Ironically, as he dashes away from this mysterious hazard, he is actually running towards even more danger, as Marc’s life creeps into Steven’s.

Moon Knight Takes Place Post-Blip

On the side of the double-decker bus seen just behind Moon Knight is an ad for the GRC or “Global Repatriation Council.” MCU fans will recognize this from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier as the international organization meant to help people return to normal life after the “snapped” half of life returned in the Blip.

This is the first link from Moon Knight to the wider MCU and means that the Moon Knight series will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame.  Similar to other MCU Phase 4 properties, Moon Knight might explore themes relevant to people coping with mass trauma.

Mr. Knight Transforms Into Moon Knight When Physically Accosted

Dapper detective identity Mr. Knight, unmasked and pushed up against a bus, morphs into the more menacing Moon Knight, wrappings autonomously snaking around him as his eyes glow white.  In previous trailers this moment was cut differently, never showing the Mr. Knight identity before now.

This reveals not only that Mr. Knight can turn into Moon Knight, but also hints at what causes the transition. Mr. Knight was likely pushed or thrown against the bus, the physical danger and call to fight causing Moon Knight to take over, similar to Bruce Banner becoming The Hulk.

Moon Knight’s Weapons, Suit, And Powers Are Supernatural

Moon Knight in the series trailer

In one scene, Moon Knight pulls a crescent-shaped weapon from his chest wrappings, all of which had just appeared during his transformation from Mr. Knight, and in another scene, he seems to summon the same weapon directly from the moon. Moon Knight is also seen leaping over a car while throwing two crescent moon weapons at armed henchmen.

The weapons and wrapping appear as if from nowhere, giving the audience an initial clue that his powers aren’t of this world. But once Moon Knight commands the weapon from the Moon itself, and then conjures multiples as needed, viewers can be sure that something supernatural is powering Moon Knight.
