Monsterverse Show Teases A Titan Battle As Big As Godzilla’s MUTO Fight

Monsterverse Show Teases A Titan Battle As Big As Godzilla’s MUTO Fight

Warning: Spoilers for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 4

A scene in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 4 seems to be setting up a Titan event on the scale of Godzilla’s epic fight with the MUTOs. Officially designated by Apple TV+’s Monarch show as “G-Day,” this moment is remembered as the point in the Monsterverse timeline where human civilization found out that monsters are real. Depicted in Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla reboot, this game-changing event for humanity unfolded when the two MUTOs made their presence known, drawing Godzilla out of the ocean’s depths and bringing him into conflict with the two monsters.

Godzilla’s brutal showdown with the MUTOs in San Francisco casts a massive shadow over Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. As a show that takes place just one year after the fight, the series is able to deal directly with the aftermath of the battle and the dominoes that fell as a result. Based on what’s known to happen next, civilization has two more major threats to deal with, specifically the rise of Ghidorah (as shown in Godzilla: King of the Monsters) and the events that transpired in Godzilla vs. Kong. Based on a hint in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, yet another Titan event may be on the horizon in the Monsterverse.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Sets Up Another Titan Event

The discovery of the Monsterverse’s new ice Titan coincided with an interesting tease regarding the Monsterverse’s future. Barnes, a scientist stationed at Outpost 47 in Utah, notified the main base to tell them about energy readings in Alaska. According to Barnes, the amount of gamma radiation they picked up on is the most they’ve detected since the “emergence event” before G-Day. The comparison to G-Day is a major tease for the show, especially since G-Day was such a grand-scale event for the Monsterverse that pitted Godzilla against two other Titans. Judging by this comment, Monarch may have to gear up for another devastating monster battle. And if what’s said in the episode is any indication, the challenge ahead of Monarch goes beyond the ice Titan.

While it may be a threat to the Monarch team, its size signals that it would be no match for Godzilla. Considering how small it is in comparison to other Titans, it alone isn’t enough to justify the concerns expressed by Barnes in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 4. The fact that the Monsterverse is comparing what’s happening in Alaska to G-Day specifically reinforces that notion that a major monster battle is meant to be an expectation for what comes next. Fueling evidence for the prospect of other Titans being involved is the mysterious hole spotted by Kurt Russell’s Lee Shaw. Because of the Hollow Earth concept and the existence of a network of tunnels beneath the surface, there’s a very good chance other monsters could emerge from the opening.

Can A New Titan Battle Happen Before Godzilla: King Of The Monsters?

The Ion Dragon from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

It was revealed in Godzilla: King of the Monsters that Godzilla and the Titans kept a low profile after the fight in San Francisco, which could risk a canon-breaking moment were Monarch: Legacy of Monsters to keep introducing more creatures. That said, it’s not impossible that the show manages to make it work somehow. After all, the show introduced the ice Titan without going against canon, which it accomplished by hiding it from public view.

As for what the fight might entail, it’s worth noting that the series already has a loose end in the form of the dragon Titan from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 2, who may or may not re-enter the picture before season 1 ends. Not only that, but being a show set in Godzilla’s world creates the sense that whether it be in season 1 or season 2, a Titan throwdown in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is inevitable.
