Monster Hunter Shows Off Her Moves in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Capcom has released a trailer that reveals the moves for a new fighter for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Monster Hunter. Earlier this week, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter, Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Venom would be joining the crossover fighting game as part of the 2017 Character Pass DLC.

The sixth main entry in the franchise, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, takes players back to basics with two-on-two matches and employs a system that allows players to use the six Infinity Stones from the Marvel Universe in combat. Released on September 19, the game includes a base roster of 30 characters from the Marvel and Capcom universes, with several returning characters and new fighters such as Gamora, Ultron, Captain Marvel, and Jedah Dohma. Capcom also announced that six characters would be joining later in the year. Sigma and Black Panther were revealed prior to the game’s launch.

Voiced by Melissa Hutchinson, the female Monster Hunter can be seen fighting alongside Black Panther in Valkanda in the story mode for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The character has now been officially revealed by Capcom in a gameplay trailer that showcases her attacks. The trailer indicates that Monster Hunter’s fighting style will rely mostly on heavy attacks, as the character fights with an unwieldy weapon called the Great Sword from the Monster Hunter series.

Though the Great Sword appears to slow the character down, Monster Hunter carries an arsenal that keeps the character from being one-dimensional in combat. The trailer reveals more of Monster Hunter’s weapons, including a bow and arrow and a pair of Dual Blades for fast-swinging action. We can also see Monster Hunter perform air attacks and special combos involving her Great Sword and Dual Blades.

Of all the characters in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Monster Hunter’s design had the largest number of possibilities. While other characters have somewhat fixed designs, Monster Hunter’s appearance varies not only from game to game, but also from player to player. In the Monster Hunter series, the player is able to customize the protagonist. The player can choose the character’s gender, hairstyle, skin and eye color. And of course, the character’s playstyle can depend on what weapons and armor the player chooses to equip them with.

Considering that the game’s base roster only includes four female characters, it stands to reason that Capcom would favor the female version of Monster Hunter.
