Monarch Show Sets Up A Missing KOTM Titan To Finally Appear In The Monsterverse

Warning: Spoilers for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 6

A scene in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 6 teased a Titan mentioned in Godzilla: King of the Monsters to finally make his Monsterverse debut. Though King of the Monsters featured a handful of Monsterverse Titans, it only showed less than half of the monsters confirmed to exist within the film’s story. It’s important to note that quite a few monsters were named but not shown.

So far, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has confirmed the existence of two additional Titans in the Monsterverse. The second episode introduced a flying beast called the Ion Dragon and retroactively made him the mysterious monster responsible for the sinking of the USS Lawton referenced in Kong: Skull Island. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 3 followed up by unveiling a Monsterverse ice Titan now known as the Frost Vark. Similar to the approach taken with former monster, it would seem that among the next Titans to appear in the series is one who relates directly to a previous development in the Monsterverse timeline.

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Sets Up The Monsterverse’s Cambodia Titan

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 6 dropped a huge connection to King of the Monsters during Tim’s conversation with Verdugo about Hiroshi Randa’s future plans. Tim noted that Randa was looking at multiple gamma surges. Tim namedropped several areas of interest to Hiroshi, including Alaska and central Asia. He claimed that one seems to be either Vietnam or Cambodia. Since these gamma surges are already confirmed to be connected to Titan activity based on their earlier research, it’s clear that there is or was a Titan in each of these locations. The Frost Vark, for instance, was in Alaska. As for what’s in the region of Vietnam or Cambodia, it would seem that Typhon is the Titan in question.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the Monsterverse used monitor screens to reveal the names and locations of a long list of new Titans. Each was being observed at a station operated by Monarch. Located in Angkor Wat, Cambodia was Outpost 92, a Monarch facility tasked with overseeing a monster called Titanus Typhon. What this creature looks like was left a mystery, as it was never referenced again anywhere in Monsterverse canon.

What Kind Of Monster Is Typhon In The Monsterverse?

Because it was never revisited, the exact nature of the Monsterverse’s Typhon is open to interpretation. But since the monster is often depicted as a mult-headed dragon monster in Greek mythology, it’s possible that this common depiction of it is a clue to its Monsterverse design. Descriptions of Typhon vary, with stories attributing all sorts of traits to him, such as wings that enabled him to fly, a hundred snake heads, the ability to breathe fire, and venomous spit. Some of these descriptions contradict each other, making it even harder to predict with accuracy what his Monsterverse incarnation looks like.

That said, the myths do provide a few constants. Two things that most stories seem to agree on is that Typhon has snake-like qualities and multiple heads. As such, either or both of these elements may be part of his Monsterverse design. Having these physical characteristics could be why Monarch decided to name him Typhon. With that in mind, Typhon could theoretically be a multi-headed dragon in the same vein as Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ King Ghidorah.

What Typhon’s Role In Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Could Be

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 6’s Cambodia reference drastically increases Typhon’s chances of making a live-action appearance on the Monsterverse. Of course, the possibility that the line about Cambodia wasn’t meant to be anything other than a King of the Monsters Easter egg shouldn’t be ruled out. However, it’s relevance to the plot shouldn’t be ignored. The locations noted by Tim were used to chart possible destinations for Hiroshi Randa. In other words, Cambodia is indeed a potential destination for the main characters in one of the show’s remaining episodes.

Cambodia being on Hiroshi Randa’s agenda makes Typhon, out of all the 11 missing Titans from King of the Monsters, the one that’s most likely to appear in the Monsterverse. As for how he’d be utilized in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, he could show up to menace the human characters, but would need to live through whatever conflict he endures. Based on what’s established in King of the Monsters, he has to be under observation at Outpost 92 as of 2019, thus preventing the series from killing him off.
