Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 – Everything We Know

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 – Everything We Know

Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has smashed its way onto the small screen in season 1, and there are interesting developments regarding a potential second season. Set within Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place in the aftermath of Godzilla’s battle against the MUTOS in San Francisco during 2014’s Godzilla. The series follows two siblings who uncover their family’s secret connection to an organization known as Monarch that has known about the existence of giant monsters for generations. As a series, Legacy of Monsters serves as a bridge between the MonsterVerse’s myriad of films.

With early returns being largely positive, the Apple TV+ original puts the focus on the characters while also adding in a heaping helping of kaiju action for good measure. While Monarch fixes some concerns about the MonsterVerse by clearing up timeline issues, it also represents the next big step in the massive movie franchise as it branches out into TV. The long-term plan for the MonsterVerse is becoming clearer and clearer, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could be the cornerstone by which the next handful of movies are measured. This makes a second season of the show not only possible, but almost necessary.

Is Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Happening?

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 – Everything We Know

Because Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is still so fresh, there has been no word concerning the possibility of a second season. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the series is a one-and-done, and the potential for more is obvious from the start. Unlike other hit Apple TV+ shows which are their own standalone projects, Monarch ties into a much larger franchise which could theoretically fluctuate and adjust as each new movie or show rises or falls. Despite that, there is strong reason to believe that Monarch season 2 will happen.

Though it hasn’t been confirmed by any press release or statement from those directly involved with the project, series producer and showrunner Chris Black might offer the biggest clue regarding season 2’s fate. On Chris Black’s official Writer’s Guild of America page, the project Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is listed as his most recent work, and it is marked as having two seasons. While that could simply be chalked up to a clerical error on the union’s part, it is compelling information about the future of the franchise.

How Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Ties Into The MonsterVerse

Godzilla in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

One of the most important aspects of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is that it not only ties into the MonsterVerse but also acts as a bridge between the different generations presented within the movies so far. The series explores the origins of the organization Monarch and also explains Godzilla’s origins in the MonsterVerse timeline. When Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place is equally important, as it covers the 1950s and the 2010s to bridge Godzilla’s origin with his eventual resurgence in the 2010s, which kicked off the film franchise.

Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could continue to fill in the intervening decades, or it could refocus on the MonsterVerse’s other titanic figure, Kong. Though nothing is confirmed yet, Kong would be the perfect way to continue the series into season 2, as his lone standalone film, Kong: Skull Island, lends the character of Bill Randa (John Goodman) to Monarch in both the past and present. Regardless, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters could be Apple TV+’s next big hit if it continues for additional seasons.
