New details about Moana 2 have been revealed, including what the story is going to be about and how long after the original film it takes place. The sequel to Disney’s 2016 animated hit was announced in February 2024, with a release date of later this year also confirmed. Bob Iger confirmed the sequel is a reworked version of a series that has been in development for Disney+ since 2020.
Now, The Walt Disney Company has revealed more details about the upcoming Moana 2, including the revelation that the sequel will take place three years after the original. The animated musical will also focus on its titular character looking for people beyond her island home. She will team up once again with Maui, alongside an array of new characters that have yet to be revealed.
