Mission: Impossible – Fallout Trailer Teaser & Poster Hype The Action

A teaser for the upcoming Super Bowl trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout has debuted online, along with a new poster. More than 22 years after the release of the first Mission: Impossible movie, Tom Cruise will be back in July – doing his own stunts once again – in Fallout, the sixth film in the blockbuster action adventure series. Following the success of 2015’s Rogue Nation, the Mission: Impossible franchise has amassed nearly $2.8 billion in global ticket sales, and by the looks of Fallout, the classic TV series-turned-action film saga clearly promises to deliver yet another wild summer movie season ride.

While details of Fallout have been scant, a brief description of the film touts “a race against time after a mission gone wrong.” Cruise once again assumes the role of Impossible Mission Force Agent Ethan Hunt, who will be joined by the IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames), as well as his Rogue Nation ally Isla Faust (Rebecca Ferguson). Michelle Monoghan returns as Ethan’s wife, Julia; while new cast members Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett join the fold.

The footage in the teaser for the Super Bowl ad that debuted Thursday is, not surprisingly, fast and intense, highlighting nearly every member of the M:I 6 cast. Beginning with a quick shot of Cruise and Ferguson, the action cuts to Cavill getting ready to engage in fisticuffs with somebody who seems to be holding a person at bay with a weapon. Baldwin’s IMF Director Alan Hunley also turns up in the spot, along with tech wiz Benji (Pegg) and expert computer hacker Luther (Rhames) in what appears to be a boat chase.

Faust also reveals herself under a motorcycle helmet visor, while Cavill and Bassett’s mysterious characters are spotted together as well. The brief spot ends with what appears to be the footage Pegg recently described on The Graham Norton Show, where he, Cruise, Rhames and Cavill are all cramped together in a small vehicle, along with a hooded figure (presumed to be Rogue Nation bad guy Sean Harris).

Obviously fans will be treated a lot more footage come time for the Fallout Super Bowl ad, which could be anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds longer than this brief teaser (if Paramount decides to go with a 30-second spot, it’s likely they will release a longer version online). Given the fact that the teaser for the big game trailer didn’t include any of Cruise’s trademark stunts, don’t be surprised to get an early look at something spectacular in store for adrenaline-fueled actor. After all, Paramount gave fans an early look at Cruise’s jaw-dropping cargo plane stunt in early teasers for Rogue Nation, so it wouldn’t be uncharacteristic of the studio to tease a showcase stunt scene for Fallout as well. A hint of what the stunt could be is featured in the poster (and teased in a recently released photo), which features Hunt, presumably, holding onto a rope below a helicopter.

Whatever stunt (or stunts) Cruise has in store for fans, look for the it to raise the bar far above anything he’s done before. Word got out early last year that forever that showcase stunt is, that he had trained a whole year in advance for it  – giving director Christopher McQuarrie another reason to invest in extra set of underwear after watching Cruise hanging off the side of a cargo plane in the thrilling opening scene for Rogue Nation.
