Mission Impossible 7 Set Photo Teases Insane Stunt High Up In The Mountains

A photo from the set of Mission: Impossible 7  shows a glimpse of a death-defying stunt high in the mountains. The latest entry in the Mission: Impossible series sees Tom Cruise return as highly-skilled spy Ethan Hunt, a member of the Impossible Mission Force. Two-time series director Christopher McQuarrie makes it a hat trick with this production – and what a production it’s been.

Mission: Impossible 7 was in the midst of filming in Italy when the COVID-19 pandemic hit that country hard. The film is set largely in Venice, and it remains to be seen whether the script will have to be rewritten to totally exclude production in Italy. In the meantime, the production has come under fire by Norwegian unions for hiring cruise ships from a company with underpaid crews, and from a small town in Poland where they purportedly sought to blow up a historic bridge. Uncommonly good news came for the film in September, as production has been allowed to resume in the United Kingdom.

McQuarrie posted an image to his Instagram of a constructed track in the mountains teasing a crazy stunt for the film. He captioned the photo “Action… #MI7 Day 1,” indicating that this is their first day back in full swing. The track appears to end in an upward ramp pointed towards a far-off mountain. Perhaps it hasn’t yet been fully constructed, but knowing the shenanigans Cruise has gotten up to in previous installments, nothing is impossible.

With a special dispensation to resume production, the crew seems to be playing it safe, mountain leaps notwithstanding. Other photos from the set show Cruise wearing a face mask, abiding by the recommendations of health officials the world over to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. As Hollywood looks to get moving again, Mission Impossible: 7 could help to set a precedent, especially for massive and highly-coordinated blockbusters. As one of the largest productions to be getting back on its feet again, the safety regulations implemented on this set will be a model for others, if all goes well.

Whatever the case, Mission Impossible: 7 seems more ready than ever to provide the thrilling, action-packed feats the series is known for.  Even during the prolonged delay, images surfaced of actress Rebecca Ferguson receiving weapons training with a sizable sniper rifle. Continuing in the tradition of Cruise doing his own stunts, the cast and crew no doubt have more daring secrets up their sleeves and behind the scenes. Hopefully, they’ll have helmets to go with their masks.
