Mission: Impossible 6 – Rebecca Ferguson Reportedly Set to Return

Mission: Impossible 6 – Rebecca Ferguson Reportedly Set to Return

This past summer, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was a big hit with a worldwide box office take of over $682 million worldwide. While it’s the fifth installment in the series, the very popular spy franchise shows no signs of slowing down, as Rogue Nation writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has already signed on for the sixth installment.

Production on Mission: Impossible 6 is expected to start by Summer 2016, with Tom Cruise back as its producer, while he also reprises his role as IMF super-agent Ethan Hunt. Although Cruise’s co-stars Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, and Ving Rhames are all believed to return to the next installment in the franchise, a breakout star from Rogue Nation is now expected to return, too.

According to Showbiz411, Rebecca Ferguson is set to reprise her Rogue Nation role as Ilsa Faust – an MI6 (the British Secret Intelligence Service, not the new movie’s abbreviation) agent who went undercover as a rogue agent for The Syndicate – in the sixth Mission: Impossible film. Ferguson was one of the best elements of Rogue Nation because she proved herself as a dynamic and thrilling action star as Cruise, all while wearing high heels (except when she had to run, of course) and slinky formal attire.

If true, Ferguson’s addition to Mission: Impossible 6 would be the first time in franchise history that the same spy team returned for multiple films. Moreover, McQuarrie’s return as director is also a first time for the franchise. From Brian De Palma to Brad Bird, every Mission: Impossible movie had a revolving door of directors, who came in to inject new life in the series. In addition, Ferguson would be only the second female lead to return for another Mission: Impossible movie. Michelle Monaghan, who played Ethan Hunt’s wife in M:I3, returned for a very brief cameo at the end of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in 2011.

Rebecca Ferguson would be a fine addition to Mission: Impossible 6, if she returns. She was definitely one of the highlights of Rogue Nation. It was refreshing that she wasn’t Ethan Hunt’s love interest, but rather his equal in the field. She was just as exciting and thrilling to watch on the big screen as Cruise, so it would be good to see the team come back together again for one more mission.
