Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 News & Updates: Everything We Know

Mojang announced on May 31 that the long-awaited Caves & Cliffs update for Minecraft is coming on June 8. That’s great news for fans of the mega-popular sandbox title, but many want to know when to expect the anticipated Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update. Originally, Minecraft Caves & Cliffs was meant to be a unified release. However, in April 2021, the team at Mojang made the decision to delay the heavily anticipated update and split it into two parts. The decision was made due to a combination of Minecraft Caves & Cliffs update’s size and the difficulty of developing a game during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given how many other games have been delayed because of complications around the pandemic, the news wasn’t too surprising. At the time, Mojang announced Part 1 of the update would come during summer 2021 and Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 would hit some time during holiday 2021. Of course, it’s now known that summer meant June 8, but Mojang still hasn’t given a clear idea of when Minecraft‘s Caves & Cliffs Part 2 will release outside of that projected late 2021 timeframe.

That said, it’s probably safe to speculate that Mojang will target some time in November for the eventual launch date of Caves & Cliffs Part 2. Minecraft is for everybody, but it’s impossible to deny that its target audience often tends to skew younger. That means bringing out one of the biggest update the studio’s ever done at the beginning of the holiday season is a smart business decision, so it seems like the perfect release date for Caves & Cliffs Part 2.

Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 Release Date: What To Expect

The new Minecraft content will get the game back into the collective consciousness right around the holiday season, most likely during the first few weeks of November. Although nothing official has been announced yet, this simply makes the most sense. For now, Minecraft 1.18 – the second half of Caves & Cliffs – will overhaul mountains and change terrain when it arrives in late 2021. Mountains will now have five sub-biomes, ranging from Mountain Meadow (full of flowers and berries) to Snow Capped Peaks (full of Packed Ice and other snowy materials). When Caves & Cliffs Part 2 arrives in Minecraft, players will also finally be able to explore below Y=0, another exciting prospect.

Whatever the release date for Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update turns out to be, players can expect a cornucopia of new content. The changes to mountains and terrain, on their own, will give players incredible new sub-biomes and areas to explore. Players will also encounter Wardens for the first time, which should provide a tough test for even the most seasoned of adventurers.

Additionally, it doesn’t appear that Mojang has announced everything coming with Minecraft‘s Caves & Cliffs Part 2 yet, so fans can likely expect to hear much more about it over the coming weeks. Once the full 1.18 update is out, players should have access to at least 90 new blocks in Minecraft. While the exact release date of Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Part 2 hasn’t been announced yet, it’s coming sometime during late 2021, and a release in early November makes the most sense to get an early jump on the holiday season.
