Millie Bobby Brown’s Next Movie Risks Creating The First Bad Rotten Tomatoes Streak Of Her Career So Far

Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel has officially made its debut, and Netflix’s new fantasy movie isn’t faring well on Rotten Tomatoes — meaning Brown’s next film risks creating the first negative streak of her career. Brown has become a breakout star on Netflix, with Stranger Things catapulting her to fame and the Enola Holmes movies keeping her a staple on the platform. She’s also appeared in projects like Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong before joining the cast of Damsel. Most of her shows and films have seen relative success, but Damsel could mark a turning point for the actor.

Damsel offered Brown the opportunity to step into a clear-cut fantasy role for the first time, but the movie raised concerns as soon as its trailer dropped. The Damsel trailer gave away much of the movie’s plot, and the final product doesn’t seem to have proven itself more impressive. Damsel‘s Rotten Tomatoes score is her lowest for Netflix and her second-lowest after Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which sits at 42%. The Netflix movie’s performance raises concerns about her next project for the streamer.

There’s More Pressure On Millie Bobby Brown’s Next Movie After Damsel’s RT Score

Damsel opened to a Rotten Tomatoes critics score in the 50s (58% as of this writing), making it a “rotten” addition to the Stranger Things star’s filmography. Although audiences have a slightly more generous opinion of Brown’s new fantasy movie — their rating currently sits at 87% — things don’t look great on the critics’ end. That means there’s even more pressure on Brown’s next movie after Damsel‘s Rotten Tomatoes score. Brown will soon star in Netflix’s adaptation of The Electric State, which is expected to arrive on the streamer in late 2024 or sometime in 2025.

Since Damsel is Brown’s lowest Rotten Tomatoes score for Netflix, the film raises questions about whether The Electric State will continue a negative streak. Both Enola Holmes movies boast critic scores in the 90s, and even Stranger Things has a “fresh” 92%. If The Electric State follows Damsel‘s lead, it could indicate a downward trend for the actor. Fortunately, there’s still hope for the upcoming film, as it has a few advantages that Damsel doesn’t.

Why There’s Still Hope For The Electric State

Although Damsel marks a low point in Brown’s Netflix career, there’s still hope for The Electric State to succeed. For one, it’s the adaptation of a graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, which means it likely has an already-established audience. It’s also coming from the Russo Brothers, who have gained name recognition with their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And finally, viewers know that Brown can handle sci-fi stories thanks to Godzilla and Stranger Things. She won’t be out of her element in the upcoming Netflix movie, and that bodes well for its success. These are all advantages Damsel doesn’t have, proving The Electric State could surpass it.
