As Milestone Media continues to reboot the Dakotaverse, it has been announced that Blood Syndicate will be the next title to return to DC Comics. Throughout the 1990s, Milestone Media introduced comic book readers to the superheroes of Dakota City, including Icon, Rocket, Static, and Hardware among others. However, one of the most popular series followed meta-humans who weren’t ordinary heroes.
The Blood Syndicate has been described as a gang, making them a distinct team from Dakota’s other protectors. Recently, the 90s run became available for the first time in print with Milestone Compendium One. The original Blood Syndicate is also available in digital format on DC Universe Infinite. Now, joining the first seasons of ongoing titles such as Icon and Rocket, Hardware, and Static, Blood Syndicate will expand the new Dakotaverse.
It has been announced by DC Comics that Blood Syndicate: Season One will be a six-issue limited series written by Geoffrey Thorne (Green Lantern) with art by ChrisCross (Static: Season One) and Juan Castro (Arrow). The series will feature the return of Tech-9, Wise Son, and Fade to Paris Island, which is known as an impoverished area gravely affected by the Big Bang. After Wise Son and Tech-9 come home from serving as a part of the military in Afghanistan, they realize that Dakota has changed. Superheroes like Static, Icon, Rocket, and Hardware are fighting against crime, and other bang babies are forming gangs. The meta-human known as “Holocaust” is putting together a team as he attempts to keep Paris Island for himself.
The series is set to begin on Tuesday, May 10, releasing in both digital and print formats. Character designs for Milestone’s Blood Syndicate: Season One have been released, as illustrated by by ChrisCross and Wil Quintan. The first issue is set to have a main cover illustrated by Dexter Soy, with an old school variant cover by ChrisCross, a new school variant by Nikolas Draper-Ivey (Static Season One), and a 1-in-25 ratio variant by Juliet Nnek.
Originally announced by Milestone co-creator and artist Denys Cowan alongside Reggie Hudlin at DC FanDome 2021, the return of Blood Syndicate has become one of the most anticipated components of the imprint’s reboot. Hudlin spoke on the upcoming series, saying, “Making Blood Syndicate the fourth pillar of this new Dakotaverse was just a matter of time. Holocaust’s recruitment of ‘Bang Babies’ in Static Season One was a big hint that we’d eventually address the impact of the ‘Big Bang’ on Paris Island. Landing Geoffrey Thorne and ChrisCross as writer and artists for the series was pretty much the icing on the cake; they’re the perfect team for telling this story.” As Milestone’s reboot officially comes together following the conclusions of the first three books’ debut seasons, Blood Syndicate: Season One will continue to expand the Dakotaverse into the imprint’s next phase.
