Marvel’s brightest mind Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are teaming up with Brooklyn-based web-slinger Miles Morales for an all-new adventure series in Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1.
Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1, written by Mohale Mashigo and artist Ig Guara, follows 9-year-old Marvel genius Lunella Lafayette, aka Moon Girl, and her pet T-Rex -Devil Dinosaur -on a series of adventures with Marvel heroes including, the one and only Spider-Man Miles Morales. A special comic book announcement of the unlikely pairing was announced back in January, ahead of the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur animated tv series announcement coming soon this summer on Disney+, and the new Miles Morales What If…? series.
Marvel recently unveiled new visuals from the upcoming comic, including official new cover art by Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (2015) artist Alitha E. Martinez featuring the young heroes together in the night sky of New York. A gorgeous variant cover by Demon Days artist Peach Momoko also shows Moon Girl in her colorful hero costume with Devil Dinosaur reflected on the right side of her glasses. This will also mark the first series the young heroes have ever been brought together in, as Moon Girl will also be partnering with other Marvel heroes such as The Avengers, X-Men, and more.
Marvel’s most unusual duo came to be in 2015’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur by Amy Reed, where the 9-year old super-genius mistakenly opens a portal to an alternate Earth that brings forth Devil Dinosaur into modern-day New York. Based on an original concept by Jack Kirby set in a prehistoric time following a young boy named Moon Boy and his mutant T-Rex dinosaur, the quirky characters would soon return in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 where Moon Boy is killed by Killer Folk and Devil Dinosaur seeks out revenge for his friend. Once Lunella discovers that she wields Inhuman powers and is able to sync her consciousness with the T-Rex, the young hero embarks on a heroic journey as Moon Girl and sets out to protect the streets of New York along with her new best friend.
Moon Girl’s super-human intelligence surpasses the minds of Tony Stark and Mr. Fantastic, making her the smartest character in Marvel. Her accomplishment in passing Bruce Banner’s intelligence test and turning the heads of egotistical villains such as Dr. Doom helped in earning her this renowned title. Although there are few who still doubt Moon Girl as Marvel’s smartest character, her new solo series will most definitely put an end to the doubt when Miles Morales and Moon Girl #1 drops into stores on June 1st, 2022.
