When Blade first manifests the costume for Miles, he gives a quick rundown of everything he’s equipped to it. For starters, the suit is effectively sire-proof, offering Miles protection from being turned. Meanwhile, Miles’ webs are infused with ancient magics that are essential to vampire killing, namely holy water and enchantments. “Affects that little venom thing you do, too,” Blade adds, though readers have yet to see exactly what that entails. What readers do see later, however, is the U.V. Spider-Signal belt buckle that emanates artificial sunlight when Miles presses it, burning R’y M’r’s skin. The all-powerful elder vamp mostly shrugs it off but confirms that “lesser” vampires would succumb to it.

Blade’s alterations to Miles’ costume give Spider-Man everything he needs to fend off vampires, officially giving him a significant edge over Peter Parker when it comes to the supernatural. Peter has had many encounters with supernatural forces, but rarely does he have the technology necessary to take down the average vampire, or worse. He’s certainly never had an arsenal as vast and versatile as Miles does now. Now that he has all the equipment he needs to fight such forces, it opens the door for entirely new stories for Miles Morales moving forward, specifically within the horror genre.

Having debuted just over 12 years ago, the career and lifespan of Miles Morales remains relatively young. As such, there remain endless opportunities to continue evolving the character, adding to his lore in the process. Adding an assortment of vampiric weaponry to his arsenal alongside a specified vampire-slaying costume helps to extend his reach moving forward and expand the ways that Miles’ stories can be told. This offers a new horror scope to tell stories like this for Miles Morales while honing his expertise as a superhero who is prepared for all challenges, including the unholy ones.
