Miles Morales May Have Just Topped Peter Parker for Most Terrifying Spider-Man Form Ever

Warning: Contains potential spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22!

Miles Morales’s horrific fate in Blood Hunt turns Spider-Man into a ghastly creature of the night. While Peter Parker has experienced his fair share of creepy forms over the years, Miles’ upcoming vampire transformation in Marvel’s 2024 summer event is one of the most haunting and disturbing. The young hero’s undead metamorphosis is an alarming reminder that nobody is protected in the ultra-violent event series.

Federico Vicentini’s cover for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 by Cody Ziglar, Travel Foreman, and Bryan Valenza gives a fresh look at the not-so-fresh living corpse of Miles Morales. Laying on a flower bed with arms crossed and seemingly put to rest, Miles gasps back to life as a terrifying vampiric form.

Why Miles Tops the List of Horrific Spider-Man Interpretations

There have been many horror-style interpretations of Spider-Man, but Miles’ undead form is perhaps the most haunting because of how much of a depressing development it is for the young superhero. Many of the scarier versions of Spider-man feature a spin on the character that highlights their spider roots, playing on arachnophobia or fear of creepy crawlies. One of the most well-known and clever forms is Spiders-Man, a version of the character literally made out of an army of spiders that debuted in Spider-Geddon #3 by Christos N. Gage, Dan Slott, Carlo Barberi, Todd Nauck, José Marzan Jr., and David Curiel.

While that version of the character is certainly spine-chilling, Spiders-Man still gets to be a hero in the Marvel multiverse and that softens the creepy factor. Other horrific Spider-Man forms have taken on a villainous identity as well, namely Peter Parker’s stint as one of Apocalypse’s horsemen, Pestilence, in Cable & Deadpool #15 by Fabian Nicieza, Patrick Zircher, M3th, Gotham, and Cory Petit. However, what makes Miles’ transformation so petrifying is that he’s an unwilling host of the vampire infection. Vicentini’s Miles Morales: Spider-Man #22 cover shows the absolute horror on Spider-Man’s face as he becomes a monster unfamiliar to himself.

Miles Morales’ Bloody Summer in 2024 Will Haunt the Character

Blood Hunt Vampire Miles Morales

The latest cover for Miles Morales: Spider-Man isn’t the only appearance previewed so far of Miles’ monstrous transformation, as Pepe Larraz’s cover for Blood Hunt #3 also shows a more sinister depiction of the young hero as a villainous vampire. While the version of Miles living on Earth-616 is undergoing some body horror, his counterpart in Kaare Andrews’ dystopian Spider-Man: Reign universe will also debut in summer 2024. With his transformation into a bloodsucker in Blood Hunt and a grim future to be explored in Spider-Man: Reign II, Miles Morales’ scary summer could drastically change the hero’s lore moving forward.

Blood Hunt sees the main continuity version of Miles Morales join an Avengers-level team to fight vampires, but the covers and solicitations preview that he won’t make it out unscathed. The young superhero becoming a monster during a foray onto a premier team is heartbreaking for the character, emphasizing the event’s horror more than other previous creepy iterations of spider-characters. With the possibility of losing his life forever and hurting his friends, family, and civilians in the process, Spider-Man’s vampire transformation is set to be a terrifying development for Miles Morales and his status in Marvel Comics.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is the name given to several individuals who have employed a spider-moniker throughout Marvel Comics. Typically gaining their powers through a bite from a radioactive spider, the different Spider-Man heroes employ super-strength, agility, and intellect while utilizing webbing to swing and tangle up their foes. The most notable of these Spider-Men is Peter Parker, who remains one of the most popular superheroes throughout the world.
