Midnight Suns’ The Hunter Gets Tragic Backstory & Pet Hellhound

Midnight Suns’ The Hunter Gets Tragic Backstory & Pet Hellhound

New information about Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ main protagonist has just been revealed, including details about their dark past and a loyal hellhound pet. XCOM developer Firaxis Games’ upcoming tactical superhero RPG focuses on Marvel’s supernatural heroes with a plot that sees some of the House of Ideas’ most famous Avengers, X-Men, and other characters join forces to protect the world from a demon army.

So far, players have gotten a preview of how the Marvel’s Midnight Suns versions of Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Wolverine will play in promising gameplay trailers that show off their various powers and card-based abilities – but there is still one hero that has been left largely in the shadows until now. This hero is The Hunter, a brand-new, fully-customizable protagonist that players will take control of alongside the rest of Marvel’s Midnight Suns‘ roster of characters. Little has been revealed about this new hero so far, save that they are the offspring of Lilith, the demonic queen in command of the villains threatening Earth. Now, The Hunter’s dark origin is beginning to come to light, and it’s about as tragic as one would expect.

A new post on the official Marvel’s Midnight Suns website includes a bio on The Hunter, as reported by CBR. The Hunter was the only child of Lilith and an unnamed mortal man several centuries before the events of the game. The Hunter’s father eventually died of a plague, which filled Lilith with an all-consuming sadness that led her down a dark path toward becoming a demi-goddess of evil. Her sister, known only as “The Caretaker,” raised The Hunter in secret, training them to become a magical warrior that would take down the now-corrupted villain of Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Once the Hunter came of age, they would battle their mother – but this fight left them both dead. Centuries later, Lilith would be revived by Hydra in its latest bid for world domination, resulting in the Hunter being risen as well – albeit with their own personal demons to overcome as they struggle between darkness and light. The Hunter won’t be fighting this battle alone though, as a newly released YouTube trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns reveals that they have a faithful pet hellhound named Charlie who seemingly has the power to travel through dimensional portals.

Midnight Suns’ Hunter Will Interact With Other Marvel Heroes

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was originally slated to launch on October 7, but it was later announced that the game was being pushed back to an undetermined time to allow more time for polish – and possibly stretching its development into next year. In the meantime, Firaxis has kept busy showing off Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ card-based gameplay and dialogue options that will see The Hunter bond with their fellow superheroes – though players hoping to hook up with Iron Man or Captain America are out of luck.

The Hunter may have more important things than romance on their mind in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, as their dark and tragic backstory paints them as a troubled soul tasked with combating both their relatives and their own inner conflict. More footage detailing how the Hunter will play in Marvel’s Midnight Suns is likely to be revealed in the months leading up to its launch, possibly giving players a closer look into how their pet hellhound will factor into the game as well.
