Megan Fox’s Expendables 4 Character Importance & Performance Praised By Director: “She Can Hold Her Own Weight”

The Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh has praised Megan Fox’s performance in the new movie, as well as commended the importance of her character. Fox portrays Gina in the movie, a CIA agent who later joins the Expendables on the movie’s main mission. Gina is also the love interest of Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), but is able to hold her own in the group’s covert operations.

Speaking with Moviefone, Waugh praised Fox’s performance and importance in The Expendables 4, saying she was a welcome addition to the team. He described the importance of having a female character with the same skills as the mostly male cast, saying Fox was perfect for the role. Check out what Waugh had to say below:

Look, I think it was definitely a part of the script when I came in with Megan’s character, Gina, and I really enjoyed the fact that there was a female character that was on equal ground and was bada**. It’s incredible working with somebody like Megan because she doesn’t give herself enough credit. I was working with her. I’m like, ‘You’re so physically talented,’ and I think she’s a wonderful actress and she fits in so well with the rest of the guys because she can hold her own weight. She doesn’t take any s*** from any of the guys, and I just love that. That’s why I think she just fits in with those type of big personalities.

Why Gina Is An Important Addition To Expendables 4

The cast of The Expendables 4 has plenty of new faces aside from Fox. While Statham and Sylvester Stallone return in their leading roles from the previous films, newcomers like 50 Cent (Power), Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior), Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life), and Levy Tran (McGyver) populate most of the team. However, Fox takes a leading role because of Gina’s high ranking in the CIA and relationship with Christmas.

Gina ends up becoming a central character following the team’s first mission, where she takes on a leading role because of the events that transpire. This makes Gina a vital part of The Expendables 4, as her leadership skills guide the team throughout the majority of their mission. Her presence also adds female representation to the franchise, opening the door for other female action stars to join the cast if a sequel gets made.

While The Expendables 4 hasn’t been a critical or financial success, Fox’s Gina still plays a vital role in the franchise’s latest entry. Even if another sequel doesn’t get made, her role in the movie makes the latest entry unique from the original trilogy. It remains to be seen if Gina will return in a future project within the franchise, and in what capacity she would come back.
