Megamind Returns With A New Voice In First Trailer For Peacock Movie… AND TV Show

Megamind Returns With A New Voice In First Trailer For Peacock Movie… AND TV Show

The new Megamind trailer teases both an animated movie and a television show. The original animated movie was released in 2010 and starred Will Ferrell in the title role as a supervillain with a huge brain who eventually learns to be heroic. Although it is technically a multimedia franchise that includes three video games, a short film, and a comic book series, there haven’t been any further installments since 2011 beyond appearances by Megamind in DreamWorks branded games like 2019’s Dreamworks Universe of Legends.

Peacock has now unveiled the official trailer for their upcoming Megamind project, which turns out to be both the feature-length Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate and the eight-episode television show Megamind Rules!. Check it out below:

The trailer showcases both properties, following Megamind’s (now voiced by Keith Ferguson) first attempts at heroism, which are still marred by his enormous ego. While the movie will follow Megamind battling his former villainous cabal The Doom Syndicate, the show will feature him attempting to become the first superhero influencer by recording his every move on his brainbots.

Both Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate and the full season of Megamind Rules! (which was formerly announced as Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City) are set to premiere on Peacock simultaneously on March 1. However, the movie is designed to be watched first. The Doom Syndicate will be a direct sequel to the 2010 movie, picking up nearly the moment Megamind left off and leading into the storyline of the show.

Megamind TV Show’s Title Change Makes The Story More Exciting

Megamind has changed its name from Megamind’s Guide To Defending Your City to simply Megamind TV show, and this is a positive change for the series.

Peacock has also announced the full cast for the Megamind show and movie, which will both feature the same cast of characters. In addition to Robot Chicken‘s Keith Ferguson replacing Will Ferrell as Megamind, Lego Marvel Avengers: Code Red‘s Laura Post will be replacing Tina Fey as reporter Roxanne Ritchi. Joining them are Josh Brener as Ol’ Chum, Maya Aoki Tuttle as Keiko Morita, Emily Tunon as Lady Doppler, Talon Warburton as Lord Nighty-Knight, Scott Adsit as Pierre Pressure, Chris Sullivan as Behemoth, Tony Hale as Mel/Mr. Donut, Jeanine Mason as Christino Christo, and Adam Lambert as Machiavillain.

It remains to be seen if Peacock’s Megamind franchise is a success or if these simultaneous releases have jumped the gun, considering the franchise’s long dormancy. The performance of the new animated property could determine the fate of many streaming services’ planned interconnected universes. While none have come to fruition as quickly as these Peacock titles, similar interlinked movie and TV titles are being planned at other streamers for properties including Prime Video’s Tomb Raider, Paramount+’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more.
