Rapp was only 19 when she first played this role and has since worked as an actress and professional singer for years before returning to this role.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for Mean Girls, Rapp explained how her portrayal of Regina George has changed. She discussed how her life had changed since originally playing Regina George on Broadway. Rapp broke down how her personal evolution has helped her gain confidence, which is reflected in her performance in the movie. Check out Rapp’s full quote below:

Reneé Rapp: I think I wanted to just do it again and do it again in a [new] version of myself. I’m more comfortable in my person now. I’m doing the things that I always really wanted to do, and I think along with that comes a lot of new insecurities, absolutely. But I also think it comes along with a lot of newfound confidence and self-assuredness that I don’t think I had when I was a teenager. That was my first job – let alone acting job. It was exciting at the time, and it was really exciting now.

The Mean Girls Musical Can Work Even For Those Who Don’t Like Broadway

Mean Girls became an instant classic when it originally hit the big screen twenty years ago. The movie still has a dedicated fan base, with younger generations continuing to find it. Part of this is because it was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2017, first debuting in Washington, D.C. Now it is coming back to the big screen with an adaptation of the musical. This has allowed the story to continue to find new audiences as younger generations discover the clever comedy of this cult classic.

These 2 Movies-Turned-Musicals Prove 2024’s Mean Girls Remake Can Be Great, Despite Major Concerns

Despite fans’ concerns, these two other successful movies-turned-musicals-turned-movies prove that the 2024 Mean Girls remake could still succeed.

However, part of what is exciting about the new movie is that it is a chance for long-time fans to experience Mean Girls like never before. Broadway performances are not only expensive; they are often location-specific, making it difficult for those who don’t live in a big city to experience them. The new Mean Girls movie can capture what fans loved about the original movie while adding musical elements from the stage as well as something entirely new for those devoted fans who have seen both.

The musical performances can reveal how the characters are feeling, which, for high schoolers, is often hidden from those around them. Mean Girls is an opportunity to bring new depth to the story as well as a different approach to the comedy to fit the humor of the 2020s instead of that of the 2000s while still harkening back to the comedy that drew so many fans in.
