MCU’s Youngest Hero Would Be Perfect For Avengers 5 (But Is Almost Impossible To Add To Its Cast)

MCU’s Youngest Hero Would Be Perfect For Avengers 5 (But Is Almost Impossible To Add To Its Cast)

There’s a recently introduced Marvel hero who could become the youngest MCU Avenger by the time Avengers: The Kang Dynasty arrives, if only it wasn’t so difficult to translate her to live-action. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been setting up the Young Avengers for a few years now. So far, the MCU’s Young Avengers cast could include heroes such as Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, Billy Maximoff, and Kid Loki. However, these characters haven’t even met each other yet, so it seems like their eventual team-up will still take a while to materialize.

Apart from the Young Avengers who have already debuted in the MCU individually, other MCU characters who aren’t usually considered official members of the team have also helped expand Marvel’s roster of legacy heroes and apprentices who could make up the MCU’s Young Avengers. For instance, Ms. Marvel, Skaar, and America Chavez are three fresh faces introduced in recent years. Considering how flexible the MCU’s team lineups have been since the original Avengers first assembled, it’s possible that a brand-new version of the Young Avengers team will be the one that debuts in one of the MCU’s upcoming movies or shows.

Moon Girl Would Be A Perfect Addition To Avengers 5 (But Is Hard To Add To The Cast)

MCU’s Youngest Hero Would Be Perfect For Avengers 5 (But Is Almost Impossible To Add To Its Cast)

Luna Lafayette a.k.a. Moon Girl, the titular character in Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, could be a key player in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty not only because she could finish establishing the MCU’s Young Avengers, but also because she could provide an explanation for their involvement in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty‘s multiversal conflict. In Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Moon Girl meets the Beyonder, an omnipotent entity that finds amusement in the young hero’s mundane affairs. Drawing inspiration from Marvel Comics’ 1985 Secret Wars crossover event, Moon Girl and the Young Avengers could bring the Beyonder into the fold during the Avengers’ potential battle with the Council of Kangs.

Unfortunately, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur doesn’t take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s main timeline. In order to maintain what the show has established, keeping Moon Girl’s journey intact would make the animated show required viewing, rendering its plot MCU canon. Otherwise, ignoring the events of the show would alienate its fans, and remaking it in live action would seem repetitive. Besides, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur‘s Beyonder could clash with Marvel Studios’ plans for the Multiverse Saga, and Moon Girl’s Inhuman nature would likely be altered similarly to Kamala Khan’s MCU power change.

On top of that, bringing Devil Dinosaur along with Moon Girl would make it even more difficult to translate the show to live action. Devil Dinosaur is an essential part of Moon Girl’s story just as much as Bucky Barnes is to Captain America or even more, so removing the creature from her live-action adaptation is not an option. But bringing Devil Dinosaur to live-action would require arduous VFX work and a drastic increase in budget — a risky move for Marvel Studios during a particularly expensive saga.

Why Moon Girl Needs A Live-Action Appearance In The MCU

Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Animated Show

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is unique in its style, tone, and sense of humor, mixing believable stakes with action for all ages. Its addition of the Beyonder is wholly original, and the protagonists’ characterization takes the source material to another level. But even if the MCU chooses to introduce an entirely independent portrayal of Moon Girl, the young hero has plenty to contribute to the MCU. Her genius-level intellect, connection to the Savage Land, over-the-top dynamics with Devil Dinosaur, and young age makes her a unique hero who could add a fresh twist to the Young Avengers and a crossover event as big as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
