MCU’s Young Avengers Team Is Already Repeating The Original Avengers’ Power Problem

MCU’s Young Avengers Team Is Already Repeating The Original Avengers’ Power Problem

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally teased the formation of the Young Avengers, but this highly-anticipated team is already repeating a problem seen with the original Avengers. With the original Avengers team no longer active as most of its members have now retired, and with younger heroes being introduced throughout the Multiverse Saga, it was just a matter of time before the MCU finally began setting up the Young Avengers. A replacement team for the original Avengers hasn’t been officially announced, but the Young Avengers are, so far, the best option.

The Marvels not only saw Kamala Khan a.k.a. Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in action alongside Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), but this experience served to inspire Kamala to form a new team with younger heroes. The Marvels ended with a surprise right before the credits started rolling as Kamala met Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) to invite her to join a team of young superheroes, with the latter accepting the offer – however, as exciting as this is, the team is already repeating a big mistake from the original Avengers.

MCU’s Ms Marvel Is So Much More Powerful Than Kate Bishop

MCU’s Young Avengers Team Is Already Repeating The Original Avengers’ Power Problem

So far, the Young Avengers team only has two confirmed members: Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop, but this is already repeating a problem that the original Avengers faced, related to the powers of these heroes. Ms. Marvel is a lot more powerful than Kate Bishop, with the latter being more like her mentor Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) in the sense of not having superpowers and instead relying on other skills and abilities. Ms. Marvel, on the other hand, is a superpowered character thanks to her mutant genes and her cosmic powers from the Noor Dimension.

As such, Ms. Marvel can manipulate extra-dimensional light from the Noor Dimension, draw energy from that dimension and solidify it into purple crystalline-looking constructs, use hard light to manipulate the size of certain parts of her body, and the Quantum Bands also grant her some extra abilities, such as clairvoyance. Kate Bishop, on the other hand, is an expert marksman and martial artist, is highly skilled in sword combat, is a skilled tactician and engineer, and possesses great intellect.

Surely, the combined powers and abilities of Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop make the Young Avengers a strong team, but there’s a clear power imbalance that can be a challenge for the writers, as they have to bring villains that aren’t too powerful for Kate Bishop to be able to stand a chance, but not too weak so that Ms. Marvel can easily take them down by herself.

How MCU’s Young Avengers Roster Prediction Makes Its Power Problem Even Worse

Young Avengers Skaar Kate Bishop America Chavez

The power level difference in the Young Avengers team will be made worse with the other heroes who are expected to join. Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop will most likely be joined by America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and Skaar (Wil Deusner), the latter being the son of Bruce Banner/Hulk. America Chavez is one of the most powerful new heroes in the MCU, as she can channel interdimensional energy through her body, through which she gains superhuman strength and the ability to create portals to alternate universes or locations within the universe she’s in. Her powers also make her unique in the Multiverse, which in turn makes her an easy target.

As for Skaar, he was only briefly seen at the end of the TV series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, so his powers and abilities haven’t been explored yet, but he’s expected to have similar powers to those of his father. Young Avengers, then, is facing the same problem the original Avengers had and that was so criticized by the audience, but luckily, the abilities and powers of these heroes will complement each other better than in the original Avengers team, and they will be given villains that are challenging to everyone but not impossible to defeat.
