MCU Theory Reveals How Loki Season 2 Just Gave The Avengers Their Best Weapon Against Kang

Warning! This article contains major spoilers for Loki season 2.

Loki season 2 is continuing the bold character development that the one-time MCU villain began in the show’s first season, but new hints make a compelling theory that Loki‘s new true purpose and power are yet to come. Loki season 1 ended with the death of Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains, which left the Sacred Timeline uncontained and set up major trouble for Loki season 2. Now, Loki’s latest failure – the Temporal Loom exploded and is slowly destroying the fabric of space and time – has inspired him to embrace a newly learned power and step into a potentially powerful new role.

The events of Loki season 2, episode 5 have viewers familiar with Marvel Comics excited. Between the nature of what’s happening with time and the TVA to some specific lines from Loki at the end of the episode, there seem to be some clear connections to a bold Loki comics story that saw the Asgardian prince shed the shackles of his past failures and forge a new destiny. If this version of Loki, dubbed the God of Stories, is indeed the inspiration for the character’s Loki season 2 arc, the Avengers may be gaining an incredibly important ally in the battle against Kang.

How Loki Season 2 Is Setting Up God Of Stories Loki

In Marvel Comics, a famous Loki storyline sees the former God of Mischief eschew his former title for a new one and take destiny into his own hands. The full backstory of Loki, God of Stories is complicated, but, in short, Loki decides he’s tired of being the bad guy destined to fail so heroes can grow. He harnesses the inherent hope present in his younger self to become an agent of good, protecting key moments in time and trying his best to help and share the stories of the multiverse. There are clear parallels to that in Loki season 2 that indicated the MCU Loki may become the God of Stories as well.

In hindsight, Loki’s desire to leave his villainous past behind has been a long time coming. Earlier in the season, Loki is confronted about how he’s destined to be a failure in every multiverse reality. While this version of Loki has already been moving far down the path of good, the accusation shook him. In Loki season 2, episode 5, Loki fails once more as his friends and entire reality shred to threads due to his inability to stop the Temporal Loom explosion. In a clear nod to the God of Stories, Loki claims, “I can rewrite the story” as he finally controls his time slipping.

Loki Season 2

In addition to building up Loki’s newfound role, Loki season 2 also indirectly showcases the incredible power of Kang and his variants. So far, the MCU’s heroes have only had to take on one version of Kang at a time, but the Quantumania post-credits scene teases the potentially unending legion of villains that makes up the Council of Kangs. While powerful Avengers like Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel can surely hold their own against any Kang in an isolated space and point in time, the team really doesn’t have a way to track and follow the villains through the multiverse with precision. God of Stories Loki can change that.

Assuming Loki succeeds in eventually rebuilding the TVA, either in full or in spirit, he gives the Avengers the multiversal leader and guide they’ve been missing. While heroes like America Chavez can already travel between dimensions, she can’t travel through time, and Loki’s ability to monitor all of space-time is hitherto unprecedented on the side of good. As Avengers: The Kang Dynasty approaches, Loki and the TVA seem set to play a key role in assembling, informing, and guiding the next Avengers team against their newest foes.
