MCU Spider-Man & Daredevil Team Up in Marvel Movie Crossover Fan Art

With rumors swirling Matt Murdock will be making a return to the MCU in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, several fans have been inspired to show what that team-up could look like. Comic-book savant Kevin Smith recently popularized the rumor after he and Marc Bernardin discussed it on their podcast, Fatman Beyond. The story stems from the idea that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker finds himself in desperate need of a lawyer after his secret identity is exposed and he’s framed as a murderer in Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene.

Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil, was last seen as the star of his own Netflix series, played by Charlie Cox. Daredevil was canceled after its third season but was widely regarded as one of the best shows on Netflix. The streaming service used Daredevil‘s popularity to spawn a New York City-based corner of the MCU with Jessica JonesLuke CageIron Fist, and The Punisher. They even crossed over in a mini-series called The Defenders, but even a superhero team-up couldn’t save the shows from corporate monopolization. All five were canceled as Disney consolidated Marvel’s streaming offerings to their own platform, Disney+.

Fans have wanted Daredevil to reappear in the MCU, and the most logical place to introduce him would be in a Spider-Man movie. If these Instagram posts are any indication, fans are very excited by that possibility. The first image, posted by jackson_caspersz on Instagram, envisions the two heroes swinging across rooftops side-by-side. Bosslogic’s Instagram post takes a street-level view and teases Murdock’s white cane.  Finally, Instagram artist ultraraw26 posted their take on the heroic duo coming to each other’s aid, adding the caption, “Let’s get your mess cleaned up, shall we?” Check out all three images below:

Netflix’s Marvel shows never really connected to the MCU. Much like ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the shows made minimal effort to acknowledge the major events of the movies, but the movies never returned the favor. Therefore, Marvel TV shows never totally fit with the rest of the MCU continuity. This was frustrating for fans, especially with shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones receiving nearly universal acclaim. Charlie Cox, in particular, was a stand-out performer and fan-favorite. Hence, it’s easy to see why the idea of Matt Murdock providing Peter Parker with some much needed legal (and costumed) assistance is so exciting.

These are nothing more than rumors at the moment, with even Kevin Smith making a point to caution fans that he has no insider information. It’s also important to note that Matt Murdock is not the only superpowered lawyer in the MCU. Disney+’s She-Hulk show isn’t too far off and is part of a new wave of streaming shows that will be much more tightly connected to the movies. Maybe that means Peter Parker’s lawyer will be Jessica Walters rather than Matt Murdock. Unfortunately, fans won’t know for sure until there’s some movement on the as-yet-untitled third Spider-Man movie.
