MCU Phase 4 Now Has 2 Replacements For The Infinity Gauntlet

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon welcome the launch of Phase 4, and the new slate of movies will presumably feature two objects that could replace the Infinity Gauntlet. The major movie franchise began in 2008 with the release of Iron Man. To date, Marvel Studios has released three phases, consisting of 23 feature films in total. Considering the first three chapters of the MCU was known as the “Infinity Saga,” it should come as no surprise that Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet served as the heart of the narrative. That will soon change with Phase 4 and beyond.

The Infinity Gauntlet was an ancient glove that could channel the powers of all six Infinity Stones. While the artifact was heavily connected to Thanos in the MCU, the object was first seen in 2011’s Thor, residing in Odin’s Vault. In reality, that glove was a fake, and the Mad Titan possessed the Uru glove as he planned to hunt down the six power gems. The Gauntlet was viewed as the most dangerous artifact in the galaxy since it gave the wielder unstoppable power. After acquiring all of the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos put the object’s power on display by decimating half of all living things will a snap of his finger.

Thanos destroyed the original Infinity Gauntlet and stones following the Snap so the Avengers couldn’t reverse his actions. The group, however, went on a time travel heist to acquire the Infinity Stones before building their own Gauntlet. While the Hulk reversed Thanos’ Snap, Tony Stark sacrificed himself by using his own Iron Man armor to act as a Gauntlet to eradicate the Mad Titan and his army. The Infinity Gauntlet’s presence ended with Avengers: Endgame, but Phase 4 could replace it with Black Knight’s Ebony Blade or Gorr the God Butcher’s weapon, All-Black the Necrosword.

Black Knight’s Ebony Blade Explained

The Ebony Blade was an ancestral weapon primarily connected to Marvel’s Black Knight. The character will make his MCU live-action debut in 2021’s Eternals in the form of Dane Whitman. Kit Harington is set to portray a descendant of the original Black Knight who took on the moniker to restore the figure’s reputation. In doing so, he will possess the Ebony Blade, a weapon carved from a meteorite that was enchanted by the wizard Merlin. Though the weapon eventually became cursed, it was known to be extremely powerful with mystical capabilities. Not only was it said to be indestructible, but it could also deflect or absorb energy, cut through any substance, and transport itself to a wielder when summoned.

 All-Black The Necrosword Explained

All-Black the Necrosword was known in Marvel Comics to be the first symbiote who manifested its form into a weapon with dark properties. It was created by Knull by using the head of a killed Celestial, but the figure was thought to have misplaced the weapon. The supervillain Gorr the God Butcher got his hands on the Necrosword, using it to slay gods and goddesses throughout the cosmos before the symbiote used him as a host. Along with Gorr, the weapon known as All-Black the Necrosword is expected to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled to release in May 2022. Christian Bale has been tapped to play the villain, and it seems very likely that he will be wielding the dark weapon when he makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
