MCU Fan Comic Compares Spider-Man Vs Loki Variants First Meeting

A new Marvel Cinematic Universe fan comic strip compares the first meeting of Spider-Man and Loki variants. The MCU’s multiverse was alluded to as far back as 2013’s Thor: The Dark World before it was outright mentioned in 2016’s Doctor Strange. It wasn’t until 2019’s Avengers: Endgame that alternate timelines/universes were explored. The MCU’s fourth phase has brought its multiverse front and center with WandaVision, LokiWhat If..?, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Disney+’s Loki introduces audiences to concepts like variants while further fleshing out the idea of alternate timelines. Taking place “after” Avengers: Endgame, the series follows The Avengers’ version of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) circa 2012, who escapes with the Tesseract during the Avengers’ time heist. After being arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) enlists the trickster’s help in tracking down another Loki variant, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), who poses a threat to He Who Remains’ (Jonathan Majors) ideal flow of time. Loki’s love/hate relationship with himself/herself crescendos in season 1’s final episodes. In episode 5, Loki encounters Classic Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, Alligator Loki, President Loki, and many more, all of which struggle to get along due to their propensity for treachery.

Digital artist Rachel Hoo on Instagram recently shared a piece of art comparing the relationships between No Way Home’s Peter Parker(s) and Loki’s Gods of Mischief. Where one group talks about great power/responsibility, bonds over science, and forms a brotherhood, the other, well, is just toxic. Check it out below:

Last year, No Way Home swung into theaters and broke box office records. The film sees Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a spell aimed at making the world forget the former is Spider-Man. Instead, it brings iconic characters from Sony’s past into the MCU, including Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men. By uniting three generations of big-screen heroes, No Way Home brings the pointing meme to life and is one heck of a nostalgia trip.

Following No Way Home, the MCU‘s multiversal madness will continue in this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said Multiverse of Madness will “crack” open the multiverse. The Doctor Strange 2 trailer dropped before the Super Bowl and set the internet ablaze. In addition to unveiling a fraction of the blockbuster’s madness, the trailer revealed Patrick Stewart will be playing a version of his Professor X from the Fox franchise. The film will also feature at least two Strange variants, and rumors hint at the appearance of Iron Man, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men variants. Even if Maguire doesn’t reunite with director Sam Raimi in the upcoming film, Multiverse of Madness will reportedly star Hiddleston and Di Martino as their Loki variants.
