MCU: 10 Times Nick Fury Should Have Contacted Captain Marvel

MCU: 10 Times Nick Fury Should Have Contacted Captain Marvel

2019’s Captain Marvel featured the origin story of one of the MCU‘s most powerful characters, as well as the friendly escapades of Carol Danvers and Nick Fury. Fury was instrumental in Carol’s quest to regain her memories and her fight against the Kree. Together, the duo forged a strong friendship, making it a puzzling choice on the spy’s behalf to ignore Carol’s pager until Avengers: Endgame.

Carol demonstrated valuable power when she repelled Ronan’s attack. The Avengers may have proved themselves as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but even they could have used help throughout their history. Here are 10 MCU moments where Fury should have contacted Captain Marvel.

Loki Arrives On Earth

MCU: 10 Times Nick Fury Should Have Contacted Captain Marvel

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes faced their first intergalactic threat in the form of Loki during The Avengers. Thor’s estranged brother traveled to Earth via the Tesseract. After using the scepter to brainwash Hawkeye, the God of Mischief proceeded to steal the Space Stone and unleash war on Earth.

Loki was a new danger that S.H.I.E.L.D. was, at the time, unprepared for. Fury should have called Captain Marvel as soon as the Tesseract — which gave Carol her powers — was stolen.

The Battle Of New York

Fury had plenty of opportunities to contact Carol before the Battle of New York. Earth faced its biggest threat yet when Loki used the Tesseract to unleash the Chitauri, and the Avengers could have used some more superpowered muscle.

The Battle of New York was instrumental in bringing together Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. If Captain Marvel had also been invited to the party, then the battle could have ended earlier with fewer casualties.

Loki Sends The Destroyer To New Mexico

Earth received its first taste of Asgard’s power in the first Thor film. In his quest for Odin’s throne, Loki sent the Destroyer to kill his brother in New Mexico, endangering the lives of countless innocent people.

This was S.H.I.E.L.D.’s first indication of Asgard’s presence and its power. Instead of trying to build weapons with the Tesseract, Fury could have called Captain Marvel and asked her to return to protect her home planet.

Ultron’s Creation

The Avengers faced their second enemy together in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Tony Stark unleashed an even bigger danger than Loki, creating an evil robot that targeted the Avengers before trying to destroy the world.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were more outmatched by the team of Ultron, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch. Fury should have contacted Captain Marvel as soon as he discovered Ultron’s existence, particularly as he was created by one of the Avengers’ primary members.

The Destruction Of Sokovia

Fury had time to contact Captain Marvel for back-up before the final fight with Ultron. The superpowered robot proved strong enough to face the full force of the Avengers and ultimately destroyed Sokovia, murdering innumerable innocent people.

Carol could have provided the team with much-needed strength and support. She was an unknown threat to Ultron, which would have awarded the Avengers the element of surprise. Her presence could have saved Sokovia and the lives of thousands of people.

HYDRA Nearly Takes Over The World

Captain America and Black Widow discover the truth about HYDRA’s reemergence in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Nazi division is revealed to have survived World War II, infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. during its inception and scheming from the shadows throughout history.

HYDRA plotted to use the Helicarriers to kill thousands of people and eliminate their most powerful enemies. Fury would have been wise to contact Carol to help combat this threat to humanity.

Nick Fury Fakes His Death

Another golden opportunity in Winter Soldier for Fury to contact Carol featured the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fake death. Fury was more vulnerable than ever while running from HYDRA. Captain Marvel could have kept him safe while helping Steve, Sam, and Natasha take down the Nazi division.

Fury would likely not have wanted to bother Carol to request her services as a bodyguard. Regardless, she would no doubt have returned to Earth anyway to protect her friend.

Dark Elves Invade Earth

Thor in London in Thor: The Dark World

Earth faced another intergalactic threat in Thor: The Dark World. The God of Thunder took on the Dark Elves when they attempted to use the Aether to restore their former dominion. Several worlds were caught in the crossfire, including Earth.

Malekith’s actions wreaked havoc across the universe. Fury should have alerted Captain Marvel to the Dark Elves’ presence and asked that she return to aid Thor in his fight.

The Avengers Disassemble

Captain America's team in Civil War

Captain America: Civil War saw the Avengers torn apart and scattered, with some leaving to pursue secret lives on the run from the government. The Sokovia Accords placed a strain on the team, resulting in a fight between friends and the implosion of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

The Avengers’ absence left Earth vulnerable to Thanos’ attack in Avengers: Infinity War. Fury could have contacted Captain Marvel after Civil War and asked that she stayed closer to her home until the Avengers were either reunited or reformed.

Thanos’ Spaceship Appears Over New York

Infinity War began almost immediately with the Black Order’s attack on New York. Thanos’ spaceship closed in on the city when Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian attempted to steal the Time Stone from Doctor Strange. The spectacle caught the attention of Spider-Man, who promptly left to join the fight.

Fury would have heard about the chaos in New York almost instantly. Instead of waiting for the effects of the Snap, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. should have contacted Captain Marvel as soon as he saw Thanos’ spaceship on TV. Carol could have returned to Earth sooner and helped defeat Thanos. Alternatively, she could have failed, leaving Iron Man and Nebula stranded in Endgame.
