MBTI® Of The Affair Characters

The Showtime network has had plenty of interesting dramas and The Affair happens to be one of the best ones. The series was initially about novelist Noah Solloway’s affair with the waitress Allison Bailey but the tree that was the story grew many branches along the way.

Several interesting characters were introduced and by the fifth and final season, there were more than a dozen people from whom a spinoff could be made. Each character had a different personality and there is no better way to explore them than by using the Myers & Briggs system.

Hellen – ISFJ

MBTI® Of The Affair Characters

Hellen is a responsible parent who does a good job of taking care of her children. She has also been a devoted partner to her two former husbands Noah and Vik as well as her recent partner Sasha Mann. She took good care of Vik when he had cancer and also stayed on Noah’s side when he became embroiled in a public scandal.

Hellen’s personality makes her an ISFJ. People like her thrive in hard work and unselfishness. They enjoy taking care of others. They value harmony and like to make sure that everyone around them is happy before they think of their own happiness.

Allison Bailey – INFP

INFPs are generally warm and kind-hearted but they like to be alone. They tend to overthink too at times and this is what happened to Allison. She often felt that life wasn’t kind to her and even contemplated ending her own life if things didn’t improve.

In reality, Allison didn’t have such a bad life. She had lots of people who loved her, especially Cole. Her quest to find happiness led her to the toxic partner Ben and sadly for her, things ended in tragedy.

Joanie Lockhart – INTP

INTPs are generally keen on finding the logic behind everything. They are deep thinkers and dedicate their time to find the meaning behind every occurrence. INTPs are also good at realizing discrepancies and as a result, it’s hard for them to be fooled.

This describes Cole and Allison’s daughter Joanie perfectly. In a future timeline shown in the fifth season, Joanie set out to find out the real cause of Allison’s death because she didn’t buy the official story that her mother committed suicide. This led her to finally finding Ben, the man that killed Allison.

Cole – ENFJ

ENFJs are people pleasers. They strive to make other people happy even though they don’t always succeed. They also have the tendency of persuading others to do things their way because they believe they know better even though it isn’t always the case.

In all his relationships, Cole tried to make his partners happy. However, they disagree because of different visions. Cole had his own ideas on how things should be done and his partners weren’t always so receptive to the ideas.

Vik – ISTP

ISTPs are known to be nice but unpredictable. Their actions surprise others (in a good way) or shock them to the point of disappointment. It felt like Hellen has landed a really good guy when she married Vik but then he cheated on her with Sierra.

It wasn’t a moment that was planned. It just happened one night when Sierra seduced him, but he should have still said no. And despite being a surgeon, Vik surprised everyone by refusing to get treatment when he was diagnosed with Cancer.

Noah – ENTP

ENTPs often have a high IQ. Because of this characteristic, they often end up achieving something major in their career. Noah achieved this through his best-selling book. ENTPs also enjoy having intellectual discussions rather than small talk.

Such people are very creative too and Noah showed this by using most of the events in his life to create a fictional story that became a really popular novel.

Sierra – ESFP

ESFPs always know how to charm those around them. They are entertainers and they know how to socialize with people and get them to like them. It is for this reason that they are also known as “The Performers.”

Sierra was quick to introduce herself and become friends with Vik and Hellen. It is due to her nature that Vik ended up having an affair with her. But even when Hellen found out, she wasn’t really mad because it was hard to hate Sierra. It is the same Sierra that had spiced up here life and took her on a getaway to meditate. Sierra was also an aspiring actress, so yes… Very much a performer.

Whitney – ESTP

ESTPs are thrill-seekers who love to leap before they look. They find normal things boring and are always on a question for exciting moments. They are also stubborn people who see no problem with their own flaws.

It is because of this reason that Whitney ended up cheating on her fiance. She even began hating him because he was reserved and jobless, only to discover that he had spent months painting a huge portrait of her that he wanted to be a surprise. It is also due to Whitney’s adventurous nature that she found herself with Furkat.

Sasha Mann – ESFP

Hollywood actor Sasha Mann was also a total charm like all ESFPs are. He charmed his way into Helen’s life and made her fall deeply in love with him. Since ESFPs are also known as “The Performers,” Sasha Mann’s profession makes him fit right in.

ESFPs also take pleasure in the good things that life has to offer. Sasha enjoyed living a life of luxury. He also made sure to get whatever he wanted. He even called out Noah for not being able to do the same. His rivalry with Noah was definitely one of the best things about the show.

ENTJ – Janelle

ENTJs are also known as “The Commanders.” They enjoy managing and often find themselves in positions of leadership. ENTJs also don’t shy away from making decisions they believe are good, even when there are those who will be hurt by these decisions.

Janelle was a leader, given her position as a school principal. She also made the decision to break up with Noah unexpectedly because she believed the best thing for her was to get back with her ex-husband. Noah was clearly hurt by this decision but she didn’t seem to care.
