Mathew Shea from Below Deck Mediterranean lashed out at the reality TV franchise and its production company over allegations surrounding Gary King. The drama began in late August 2023 when a production crew member, Samantha Suarez, accused Gary of sexual misconduct. The makeup artist claimed that an intoxicated Gary hugged her from behind one day and didn’t let go. While she was able to escape, the incident scarred her and led her to open up. Samantha shared that there is allegedly no limitation on alcohol consumption on set, which poses a big problem.
While Gary has denied the claims, many people aren’t on his side. One such person is Below Deck Mediterranean season 6 star Mathew Shea. Recently, the Rhode Island native posted a few Instagram Stories to chime in on the drama. He shared a snapshot of a news article featuring Gary’s scandal and blasted the crew. Mathew wrote (as reported by Monsters & Critics), “The irony of being destroyed for a knee injury caused by anxiety when perpetrators of sexual assault are protected and rewarded.” The popular chef tagged Below Deck’s official account on the post, alongside chef Dave White and NBCUniversal. He sarcastically wrote, “I’m looking at you.”
Mathew Shea’s Below Deck Med Injury Explained
Mathew mainly mentioned his knee injury to highlight how the Below Deck franchise didn’t care for him. During Below Deck Med season 6, the Rhode Island chef missed time on the boat due to various accidents. At one point, he experienced “the worst burn of his life,” which caused him to seek medical attention. Before that, he didn’t show up for the first charter due to a knee injury he got after bringing his provisions on board. He faced anxiety and insomnia, which caused him to receive an MRI. Some Below Deck crew members mocked Mathew for his clumsiness. It seems he’s still holding a grudge.
Despite Mathew’s history with Below Deck, he is right to call out people and accuse them of covering up Gary’s alleged scandal. The 35-year-old South African man has since accepted his mistake and pledged to improve.
