Masked Singer Launches Global Series ‘One World, One Masked Singer’

The Masked Singer is expanding its franchise by launching a global competition called One World, One Masked Singer. The popular singing competition show originated in South Korea as The King of Mask Singer in 2015 and has since expanded to many countries around the globe, including the United States, Australia and Germany. The show’s U.S. version is nearing the end of its seventh season and has crowned winners like Wayne Brady, LeAnn Rimes and Jewel in past seasons. The Masked Singer is also planning to take a concert tour version of the show on the road later this year. The tour will visit cities in all 50 of the United States and will include special guests like Natasha Bedingfield, who competed on the show as Pepper during season 6.

The show has also garnered a dedicated fan base who tune in each week and scan contestants’ clue packages for hints towards their identity, typically figuring out who’s behind the mask long behind The Masked Singer panelists do. Recently, fans were angry when former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani competed on the show as Jack in the Box. But luckily, a week later, they were happy to leave the episode in the past and move on. The remaining contestants are some of the most talented in all seven seasons of the show, and fans are excited to see who will win the coveted masked trophy. So far, Firefly and Ringmaster, who have blown the panelists away, have made it through to the show’s finale.

The show is now taking things one step further by launching a worldwide competition called One World, One Masked Singer. According to Variety, celebrities from different versions of the show, like the U.S. or France, will compete in a global battle to be crowned The Global Masked Singer Champion. The competition will be launched by MBC America and U.S. Masked Singer executive producer Craig Plestis, who shared, “This project has been a dream of mine since I realized that The Masked Singer was going to be a global phenomenon following the success of the format in the U.S.

Participating countries have not been announced yet, but with over 56 countries airing their own versions of the show, there are plenty of possibilities. Past contestants include stars of all generations, from Dionne Warwick to JoJo Siwa. The show has also featured social media stars like YouTuber Ninja and, before Rudy, politician Sarah Palin. As the show nears the end of its seventh season, three talented contestants remain–Cobra, Space Bunny and Prince. Fans so far believe stars En Vogue, Shaggy and Cheyenne Jackson are behind the costumes.

While few details have been revealed about the event so far, fans will surely be excited to tune in for the competition. It’ll be fun to see which countries and contestants participate and equally exciting to see who will win. The show has been successful for years and doesn’t seem to be fading away anytime soon. For eager Masked Singer fan, who think a Broadway star is in the Prince costume, they’ll just have to wait until more details are released.

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
