Marvel’s Werewolf By Night Reclassified From Comedy To Horror On Disney+

Marvel’s Werewolf By Night Reclassified From Comedy To Horror On Disney+

Marvel’s upcoming Werewolf by Night special has been reclassified on Disney+. It will be the first television special set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out later in December, before James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 next year. Not much is currently known about what Werewolf by Night will tackle, but it will be presented in black and white and directed by Michael Giacchino, a long-time composer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who recently collaborated with Nani Melumad to bring Thor: Love & Thunder‘s score to life.

Starring Gael Garcia Bernal, Laura Donnelly, and Harriet Sansom Harris, Werewolf by Night will be the first time the Marvel Cinematic Universe fully delves into the sphere of horror. While there were previous “scary” films set in the Marvel Universe, such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and a few supernatural elements in Moon Knight, the MCU hasn’t given a full-fledged horror movie. That seemed like it would change with Werewolf by Night, until Disney+ classified it as a “comedy.”

However, Disney+ has now reclassified the special from comedy to horror. It’s unclear when the change was made, but a user on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers discovered that Disney had reclassified the special from what it originally was. Audiences were expecting the special to be a full-on horror film, but many were surprised when Disney billed it as a comedy. It looks like that is no longer the case, as Werewolf by Night falls into the categories of Horror, Fantasy, Superhero and Action-Adventure.

What’s Werewolf By Night’s Place In The MCU?

As mentioned above, Werewolf by Night will be the first exploration in the MCU’s horror-driven side. While it still isn’t clear if the character will appear in future MCU titles, it has been revealed that Man-Thing will be making an appearance in the special, alongside Elsa Bloodstone (played by Laura Donnelly), who are two highly-known characters in the Marvel universe. Gael Garcia Bernal will be playing Jack Russell, the comics’ first iteration of Werewolf by Night.

It’s been rumored that Man-Thing will have a major presence in future Marvel titles, and the special looks to be setting up a more supernatural side of the MCU. It’s also been long rumored that Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and the upcoming Blade will be setting up Midnight Sons, but this crossover project hasn’t been announced by Marvel. Time will tell what Werewolf By Night’s place will be in the MCU when the special releases on Disney+ October 7.
