Marvel’s Upcoming Cosmic Hero Shows Off His New Suit In Nova Fan Poster

A fan poster created for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Nova project brings the MCU’s new cosmic hero to life, despite not much being known about the planned project. An MCU project featuring Marvel Comics’ Richard Rider, a.k.a. Nova, was revealed to be in development in March 2022, with Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel writer Sabir Pirzada returning to pen the space-faring series. While production on the MCU’s Nova project has been slow, amid Disney’s decision to scale back content output after criticism aimed at the MCU’s Phase 4, and strikes in Hollywood pausing many projects, many are still exciting about the prospect of Nova’s debut in the MCU.

Since not much is known about the MCU’s upcoming Nova project, there has been a great deal of speculation about what storyline could be told, which characters might be included, and how Marvel Studios will deliver the adventure. One fan poster shared by spideyvegas imagines Nova as a Special Presentation in the MCU, and features the returns of Glenn Close and John C. Reilly from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

The poster also gifts Richard Rider himself a sleek, futuristic, space-worthy costume for his MCU introduction. Rider’s Nova could even find himself battling Kree Accusers, as ships resembling Ronan’s from James Gunn’s MCU debut can be seen in the background.

Why Nova Is So Important For The MCU

Although production has been incredibly slow on the MCU’s Nova debut, the project is still highly-anticipated among Marvel Studios audiences, not least because it has the chance to revisit one major missing story from 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. During Infinity War, Thor reveals to the Guardians of the Galaxy that the Mad Titan Thanos decimated Xandar a week prior in order to acquire the Power Stone. The last time audiences had seen Xandar, the planet and its residents, including the Nova Corps, had just been saved by the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel Studios still hasn’t explored Thanos’ attack on the planet, but Nova can rectify this.

Back in April 2023, it was revealed that a 45-minute-long scene depicting Thanos’ attack on Xandar was filmed for Avengers: Infinity War, but was cut from the final film to spare VFX costs and trim the film’s runtime. There have been calls for this scene to be released, giving viewers an insight into the devastation that Thanos caused right at the start of his Infinity War mission. Marvel Studios’ Nova would be the perfect place to include this scene – or an edited version of it. It’s currently unclear when the MCU’s Nova might actually release, but the project could be pivotal in explaining missing gaps in the MCU’s history.
