Marvel’s Supernatural Avengers Will Perfectly Reflect The Original Movie Team – Theory Explained

Marvel’s Supernatural Avengers Will Perfectly Reflect The Original Movie Team – Theory Explained

One MCU theory proves that Marvel Studios’ rumored supernatural superhero team can perfectly mirror the MCU’s original Avengers. Since 2012, the Avengers have been the signature superhero team in the MCU, forming at the end of Phase 1 to battle Loki and his Chitauri army during the Battle of New York. Originally comprising Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Black Widow, Thor and Hawkeye, the Avengers have expanded over the years, but their current status in the MCU is unclear, as they haven’t been seen since Avengers: Endgame. However, Marvel Studios may be about to introduce several powerful Avengers replacements.

While teams such as the Thunderbolts, the Young Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men have been confirmed to be joining the MCU, Marvel Studios may have also been setting up another potential Avengers replacement. Throughout the MCU’s Phases 4 and 5, several supernatural and mystical heroes have been introduced, spurring theories that Marvel Studios’ Midnight Sons team could soon be forming. The Midnight Sons have been seen to take on Marvel Comics’ most dangerous and darkest supernatural and occult threats, which Marvel Studios has increasingly been exploring in recent years, making the Midnight Sons an incredibly exciting rumored addition.

Marvel’s Rumored Midnight Sons Team Could Mirror The Original Avengers

While there are already several potential members of the MCU’s Midnight Sons team, one theory posed by Reddit user InformalJello9322 suggests that the Midnight Sons could be the perfect replacement for the Avengers. The theory poses that each member of the Midnight Sons could fit the same archetypes as each member of the original Avengers team, hinting at six potential Midnight Sons members, and their villains, who could reflect a similar storyline to the Avengers’ initial formation. Since Doctor Strange has led the Midnight Sons as the “brains” in Marvel Comics, he could take over from Tony Stark’s Iron Man.

Each of the other original Avengers also have the perfect supernatural replacements in this Midnight Sons theory. For the “fighter”, Steve Rogers’ Captain America may be replaced by Mahershala Ali’s upcoming Blade, while the “god” of Thor fits the bill for Moon Knight perfectly, as he’s the avatar of the Egyptian God Khonshu. Bruce Banner’s Hulk has been dubbed the “monster”, which is a role that Man-Thing could assume, while Jack Russell’s Werewolf by Night is the perfect “spy” reflection of Natasha Romanoff’s Black Widow. For Clint Barton’s Hawkeye, the “heart”, Dane Whitman’s Black Knight may be the best reflection.

The Midnight Sons Can Expand Just Like The Avengers

Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man and the Hulk as the original Avengers team in The Avengers

While the MCU’s Midnight Sons may be established with only six members, similarly to the original Avengers team back in Phase 1, it’s possible the team could grow after their debut. Following 2012’s The Avengers, the titular superhero team added many members, including the likes of the Scarlet Witch, the Falcon, Spider-Man and many more, and there are several Midnight Sons members who have already been introduced to the MCU that haven’t been mentioned in this theory. The likes of Elsa Bloodstone, Wolverine, Iron Fist, the Scarlet Witch and Wong, could potentially join the Midnight Sons following the team’s debut.

Blade is joining the MCU in Phase 5, but as no one really works alone in this universe, here are the teams Blade could join at some point.

As well as these supernatural heroes, there are more who have been part of the team in Marvel Comics that haven’t yet appeared in the MCU. Parker Robbins’ Hood is set to debut in Ironheart, while the witch Jennifer Kale will appear in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and both could join the Midnight Sons. Prominent Midnight Sons members such as Morbius, Majik, Hannibal King, Scarlet Spider, Doctor Voodoo and Ghost Rider, who regularly leads the Midnight Sons, haven’t yet debuted in the MCU. Should new members join the team, however, the Midnight Sons can mirror the Avengers in yet another way.

When Could Marvel Studios Form The Midnight Sons?

The fact that so many supernaturally-focused characters have been introduced throughout Phases 4 and 5 suggests that Marvel Studios may bring together the Midnight Sons before the conclusion of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. This would make sense, as forces from alternate realities and dimensions often go toe-to-toe with the Midnight Sons in Marvel Comics, so the same can happen in the MCU. The most convincing place for the team to join forces is in Phase 6’s upcoming Blade reboot, which will star Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter, a prominent member of the Midnight Sons since the team’s formation.

However, there may be criticisms about Marvel Studios bringing together the Midnight Sons without a version of Ghost Rider, as the Spirit of Vengeance is one of the most notable members of the team in Marvel Comics. The theory suggests that Ghost Rider could assume the role of Loki from The Avengers, being introduced as the Midnight Sons’ first villain, who eventually becomes a powerful ally. This means that the Midnight Sons could helm their own movie, perhaps building up to battle a Thanos-level villain like Mephisto, allowing them to become the perfect replacement for the Avengers in the MCU.
