Marvel’s Spider-Man Season 2 Will Premiere in 2018 on Disney XD

Marvel’s Spider-Man Season 2 Will Premiere in 2018 on Disney XD

Disney XD promises that new episodes of Marvel’s Spider-Man will hit television screens this year, as the series pushes forward into season 2. The latest animated series from the House of Ideas to air on one of its parent company’s cable channels, Spider-Man took the story of Peter Parker back to basics, delivering the tale of a busy high schooler who also happens to be your friendly neighborhood… well, you know.

The series launched in 2017 on Disney XD and earned praise for its depiction of the title character that was both faithful to the comics and a worthy update of the hero in the wake of Spider-Man: Homecoming’s success. Melding those two elements into an animated series aimed primarily at a younger audience was no easy task, but the show pulled it off, bringing in plenty of Spidey’s famous rogues, including Vulture, Scorpion, Norman Osborn, and even Venom in the first season.

But the series offered much more than just the wall crawler doing battle with his enemies; it also included introductions to Miles Morales, Gwen Stacey, and Anya Corazon, effectively bringing forth the Spider-Verse. Season 2 promises to bring more of the same, as was mentioned in a press release from Marvel:

Marvel’s Spider-Man Season 2 Will Premiere in 2018 on Disney XD

“The second season of “Marvel’s Spider-Man” follows Peter Parker in his sophomore year as a more experienced Super Hero and a more confident student at what was once the intimidating Horizon High School. Picking up where season one left off – in an epic showdown against Doc Ock, the Sinister Five, and Hobgoblin – season two will offer much higher stakes for both Peter and his heroic alter-ego, Spider-Man. He’ll also learn how to navigate new responsibilities like working at his local newspaper The Daily Bugle while enduring Doc Ock’s series of obstacles in the villain’s attempt to get rid of Spider-Man once and for all. The action-packed season will continue to touch on Spidey’s relatable themes, including friendship, loyalty and heroism, while staying true to its signature sense of comedy. The premiere date for the series will be announced at a later date.”

The continuation of Marvel’s Spider-Man refutes the rumor that Marvel’s animated TV series were all being canceled. In the announcement of Spider-Man season 2, it was also mentioned that new episodes of Guardians of the Galaxy as well as a Black Panther-focused Avengers series would also hit Disney XD in 2018. Moreover, Marvel Entertainment president Dan Buckley confirmed all three shows will air through 2019.

“We are tremendously proud of our animated series on Disney XD. We look forward to continuing our relationship with them including fresh new seasons of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BreakoutMarvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest, and Marvel’s Spider-Man which will air through 2019.”

So, not only will Marvel’s Spider-Man be returning with new episodes this year, but the state of Marvel’s animated shows appears to be decided, at least through 2019.
