Marvel’s Phase 7 Avengers Replacement Has Been Set Up For 8 Years

Marvel’s Phase 7 Avengers Replacement Has Been Set Up For 8 Years

The Young Avengers‘ MCU introduction in Phase 7 would fix both their absence and the Avengers’ lack of team-up events in the Multiverse Saga. The last time the Avengers assembled in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was for Avengers: Endgame’s ending, where Iron Man’s death marked the end of an era. Since then, the original team has remained disbanded and a new generation of heroes have populated the MCU. However, a new team is yet to officially replace the original Avengers.

As the newest chapter of the MCU movie timeline, the Multiverse Saga has introduced many heroes and anti-heroes with a wide variety of powers and unique origin stories, but none of them have encountered a common threat that motivates them to join forces. Phase 4 and the first half of Phase 5 have lacked the presence of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and it seems like an official team will continue to be absent until the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty movie arrives. Still, those new Avengers have little in common, and it’s unlikely that they’ll be as close as the original Avengers after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars.

The MCU’s Young Avengers Have Been Slowly Set Up Over 8 Years

Similarly, the Young Avengers have slowly debuted throughout Phases 4 and 5, but they haven’t had a chance to cross paths yet. However, characters such as Kate Bishop, Riri Williams, Cassie Lang, and Skaar have much more in common with each other than heroes like Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, and Sersi. While they don’t know each other yet, the Young Avengers might eventually realize that the original Avengers’ legacy rests on their shoulders. Deaths and retirement from heroes like Hulk, Hawkeye, and Ant-Man will likely become the calling card for their direct successors, who will be more logical candidates for a new Avengers team than other adult heroes with little connections to the original team.

Phase 7 Can Introduce The Young Avengers And Replace The Original Team

Iron Man and the Young Avengers in the MCU

Instead of rushing the introduction of a new Avengers team halfway through the Multiverse Saga or forcing a long-lasting partnership after Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the MCU could wait until Kang the Conqueror and his variants are defeated to debut a new official Avengers team. This team-up would finally pay off their individual introductions across multiple Phases 4 and 5 releases and fill the void that the original Avengers left after Avengers: Endgame. Although the new team wouldn’t do their “Young” name justice, their status as the original Avengers’ direct heirs would justify their association.

The Young Avengers’ team-up after Avengers: Secret Wars would also pave the way for Avengers and X-Men crossover stories in Phase 7 and beyond without the need for a reboot. Since one of the main draws of the X-Men’s late MCU introduction is the possibility of witnessing mutants cross paths with other Marvel heroes, the MCU needs an official Avengers team to be present when the X-Men officially assemble. While the original Iron Man and Captain America likely won’t be around by that point, Young Avengers members like Ironheart and Patriot could play similar roles.
