Marvel’s Phase 5 Slate: Every Movie & Show Release Date

Marvel Studios’ MCU Phase 5 slate is formed of both movies and TV shows, just like Phase 4. Now that the Infinity Saga is over, Thanos is gone, and the original Avengers team is no longer active, the MCU continued its expansion in Phase 4, which continued the stories of already established characters as well as introducing new heroes, villains, events, and concepts. MCU Phase 4 opened the multiverse with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Loki on Disney+, but there didn’t seem to be a clear direction for the future of the MCU.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige cleared this up during 2022’s SDCC, where he presented the entirety of the MCU’s Phase 5 roster, plus some major reveals for the MCU’s Phase 6. The events in Phase 5 will be key to the MCU’s path towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, as they won’t only properly introduce Kang the Conqueror, but will also see the debut of a famous vampire hunter, the formation of a new team, the returns of Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Daredevil, and Loki, and a big event involving the mysterious Skrulls. Here’s every MCU project confirmed for Phase 5 and when they’ll be released.

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania – February 17, 2023

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicked off the MCU’s Phase 5 in February 2023, directed by Peyton Reed as the third film in his Ant-Man franchise. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprised their titular roles, joined by Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror for an adventure in the Quantum Realm. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was met with mixed reviews, but did set up several important storylines for the future of the MCU, most notably introducing audiences to Kang the Conqueror, marking the beginning of his destructive plans, and setting the stage for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 5, 2023

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket, Nebula, Mantis, Groot, and Kraglin return to the MCU for one final mission as a team, defending the galaxy and protecting one of their own. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will introduce new characters such as Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary, with the latter helping to explore Rocket’s MCU backstory. The team will also reunite with the 2014 version of Gamora, who was last seen at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.

Secret Invasion – June 21, 2023

Secret Invasion will mark the start of Phase 5 on Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. The series will see the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, as well as Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Don Cheadle, and Ben Mendelsohn reprising their previous MCU roles. Newcomers include Emilia Clarke as Mendelsohn’s Talos’ daughter, G’iah, Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the Skrull revolutionary Gravik. Though only six episodes, Secret Invasion will have huge implications for the MCU’s future, so everything will change after its release on June 21, 2023.

The Marvels – November 10, 2023

The Marvels, directed by Nia DaCosta, is Phase 5’s sequel to Captain Marvel and a continuation of the Disney+ series WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani will share the screen for the first time as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, respectively. The Marvels will also see the return of Samuel L. Jackson following Secret Invasion and will debut Zawe Ashton as a new MCU villain and Park Seo-joon in an undisclosed role. The Marvels will release in theaters on November 10, 2023.

Captain America: New World Order – May 3, 2024

After officially taking the mantle of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson will return to the big screen in Captain America: New World Order. Julius Onah will direct the project, which will explore the effects that becoming Captain America has had on Wilson. Captain America: New World Order will be released on May 3, 2024, and is set to include a variety of Hulk-related characters, including Tim Blake Nelson’s villain, the Leader, Harrison Ford’s General Ross, and Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross, though it’s unclear why so many Hulk-adjacent characters are playing a part in the MCU’s next Captain America film.

Thunderbolts – July 26, 2024

The MCU’s Phase 5 will feature the formation of a new team in Thunderbolts. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Hannah John-Kamen, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko all reprise their previous MCU roles as members of the inaugural Thunderbolts team. Recent speculation suggests the team will be pitted against the Sentry, potentially played by Steven Yeun, though this hasn’t been confirmed. Jake Schreier is attached to direct the project, which has an exciting release date of July 26, 2024.

Blade – September 6, 2024

One of the most-anticipated projects of the MCU is Blade. After making a surprise voice cameo in the mid-credits scene of Eternals, Mahershala Ali is coming back to star in his own movie as Eric Brooks, the infamous vampire hunter. Blade was due to be directed by Bassam Tariq, but Tariq dropped out of the production shortly before filming was set to begin in 2022, with Yann Demange replacing him at the helm. Blade’s production has been full of issues, causing major delays for other MCU projects, but its current release is scheduled for September 6, 2024, bringing the MCU’s theatrical slate in Phase 5 to a close.

Echo – Coming Soon

Echo will release as part of the MCU’s Phase 5, originally billed for release in Summer 2023, though this is expected to be delayed. Alaqua Cox will reprise her role as Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo, from Hawkeye, and the series will see her returning to her hometown, where she will have to confront her past and reconnect with her Native American roots. Also joining Echo in her solo Disney+ series are Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox as Kingpin and Daredevil, respectively, setting up their adventure in Daredevil: Born Again.

Loki Season 2 – Expected In 2023

Loki season 1 was key to the MCU’s Phase 4, introducing the Time Variance Authority (TVA), the concept of variants, and He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s post-credits scene introduced Victor Timely to the MCU in a scene taken from Loki season 2, which also featured Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius. Originally expected for early 2023, Loki season 2 has been delayed, though it’s still thought to be premiering at some point in 2023.

Ironheart – Coming Soon

After making her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Dominique Thorne will be returning for a solo Disney+ series as Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart. Anthony Ramos, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana, Lyric Ross, Shea Couleé, and Alden Ehrenreich will be joining Thorne, and Sacha Baron Cohen has been rumored to appear as Mephisto in Ironheart. With poet and playwright Chinaka Hodge penning the script, Ironheart was originally expected to debut in late 2023 on Disney+, but a specific release date is not currently known.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos – Coming Soon

Phase 5’s WandaVision spinoff will focus on Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, an original Salem witch who tormented Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, during the MCU’s Phase 4. Agatha: Coven of Chaos is described as a dark comedy and is expected to set up Hahn as an MCU mainstay. Coven of Chaos was intended to arrive on Disney+ in winter 2023 or early 2024, but the series has since been delayed, so it’s unclear when Agatha’s spinoff will actually be released. It’s unclear whether Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role, but newcomers Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, and Joe Locke make for a very intriguing cast.

Daredevil: Born Again – Coming Soon

After his surprise cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Charlie Cox will lead his own MCU Disney+ show, with Daredevil: Born Again being gifted a monumental 18 episodes. Vincent D’Onofrio will also reprise his role of Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal is also reprising his Netflix role of Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher. Daredevil: Born Again was originally billed for release in spring 2024, but it’s current release date is unknown.

Is Deadpool 3 In The MCU Phase 5?

Deadpool 3 was announced after Kevin Feige’s SDCC and D23 reveals, with a planned release date of November 8, 2024. This caused some confusion about whether Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming MCU flick would be in Phase 5 or Phase 6. Per Feige’s announcement, Phase 6 would kick off in 2025 with the release of Fantastic Four, though the official image for Phase 6 at SDCC revealed one further project to release before Fantastic Four, kicking off Phase 6, which must be Deadpool 3. Deadpool in Phase 6 makes sense, as this would be deep within the Multiverse Saga, and MCU Phase 5 can end by setting up the major events that will follow.
