Marvel’s Midnight Suns Will Be 40 to 60 Hours Long

A new interview with developer Firaxis Games has revealed that their new turn-based role-playing superhero game, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is estimated to be finished between 40 to 60 hours. Revealed to be developed by the creators of XCOM last month, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will have no time limit and feature a different set of design goals and mechanics. This will allow players to master the game at their own pace and learn its new turn-based card system.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was announced last month as a new XCOM styled superhero game by publisher 2K Games. It promised to dive into a darker part of the Marvel Universe and features iconic characters such as The Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Blade, and many more to be confirmed. Though created by developer Firaxis Games, who are known for their popular tactical role-playing series, XCOM, Marvel Midnight Suns was shown to replace the original tactical formula with a brand new turn-based system that involved a deck of cards. This new card system would allow each hero to enter battles with their unique abilities assigned to individual cards in loadouts, ultimately replacing XCOM‘s infamous chance to hit gameplay feature. A time limit was required in XCOM due to its gameplay mechanics and narrative style however, a feature not seen in Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Announced in an interview by GamerBraves with Firaxis Creative Director, Jake Solomon, (Via Wccftech) it was revealed that Marvel’s Midnight Suns will not have a time limit and take approximately between 40 to 60 hours to complete, something previously not seen in an XCOM title. When it comes to pacing, Soloman described the game’s deckbuilding strategy and relationship-building aspects as the complete opposite of XCOM. Marvel’s Midnight Suns allow players to bond with their heroes and create friendships, which he revealed is also unlikely to be maxed out with all of the characters in one playthrough. Soloman also explained that upgrading each individual hero, the facilities in the abbey, or improving the Forge required resources, which players will need to unlock by spending time gaining credits.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Will Be 40 to 60 Hours Long

Thanks to Insomniac’s successful Spider-Man titles, Marvel has been pushing forth the development of newer games and has seen a renascence over the past few years. Along with Marvel’s Avengers, which recently received a Black Panther: War For Wakanda DLC expansion, Eido’s Montreal has also announced a game adaption for the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy. However, anticipation for Marvel’s Midnight Suns seems the most, as its diverse roster of heroes and lengthy focus on relationships, give the Marvel universe a more favorable depth.

Given Jake Solomons’s statement, Marvel’s Midnight Suns length appears to be longer than an average AAA title and will have infinite replayability due to its new card-based system. Interested players who have an itch, can check out the brand new gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Midnights Suns and prepare for the release of Firaxis’s anticipated turn-based Marvel game next year.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in March 2022.
