Marvel’s Justice League Helped The USA Destroy Canada

Warning! Spoilers for Heroes Reborn: Weapon X & Final Flight #1!

In the alternate Heroes Reborn reality, Marvel’s Justice League, the Squadron Supreme of America, has helped the United States wage war on their northern allies of Canada, utterly destroying the country in the process. Suffice it to say, Marvel’s favorite Canadian, Wolverine, is not happy about it.

Revealed in the latest tie-in issue for the universe-altering Heroes Reborn event, Heroes Reborn: Weapon X & Final Flight #1 by Ed Brisson and Roland Boschi follows Wolverine – or Weapon X in this reality – as he and the remaining members of Alpha Flight try to stick it to the overpowered superhero team that has annihilated his country. Fighting against them in a last-ditch effort to take them out, Wolverine is held in reverie as he remembers the events leading up to their current brutal battle.

Managing to murder Hyperion (temporarily) with enchanted claws, Wolverine thinks to himself about how he and his team have been failing Canada for quite some time now. Revealing that at some point in the past the Squadron had led “an army north of the border” only to annex the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia “for their resources” shortly after, Wolverine then tells readers that the encroaching forces went full bore on the country as they, “bombed the rest of Canada for daring to fight back.”

Leaving the country a “corpse” of what it used to be, Wolverine dictates a time in Canada’s recent past which effectively showed the might of an America tainted by the devil that is Mephisto, as well as a team of superheroes whose values are extremely questionable to say the least. Going on to say that Alpha Flight mainstays such as Guardian, Puck, and Northstar (among others) were lost in the war along with most of their military ranks, Wolverine paints a brutal picture of a country that never stood a chance from the get-go.

Not fairing all that much better as the current battle ensues, Wolverine failing to protect the country he loves was a huge loss for a hero and team that are still trying to pick up the shattered pieces of a country that once was. But as everything in this Heroes Reborn reality can attest, the good guys have rarely been able to come out on top in any given situation, especially with the ever-present evil that the Squadron embodies hovering over their heads constantly.

So while much has changed in this new Heroes Reborn universe, the Squadron Supreme of America has accomplished something that most villains would only dream of by destroying an entire country and making it look easy in the process. Luckily for Wolverine and the rest of the Marvel universe, this event series is finally reaching its end, and the ramifications of a world reborn are about to be met head-on by a team of Avengers that cannot afford to lose.
