Marvel’s Iron Fist: Set Photos Show Finn Jones as Danny Rand

Production on Marvel’s Iron Fist is finally under way, and this past week brought even more excitement to the table with more additions to the cast. Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) will star as Danny Rand, who — after being orphaned and raised by warrior monks — returns to New York to right wrongs and find the people responsible for the death of his parents, and his grueling training regimen leading up to production reflected that.

Now, fans are getting their first look at the lead in action. Shooting was underway today in New York, and curious photographers were on hand to try and steal that first glance. One lucky photographer managed to sneak the very first HD photos from set, showing what looks like Danny Rand’s return to New York City.

Even Tumblr user Delevinged was unclear whether this will be Danny Rand’s standard street wear or if something more remains to be seen, but recent casting news coupled with the fact that this will be an origin story makes it seem as though the Meachum family will definitely serve as the primary protagonists of the series — or, at least, they’ll be working directly with the villain. Either way, Rand is easily one of the more laid-back members of the cast, and his style in these photos seems to reflect that classic personality. While it’s a far shot from a costume reveal, it’s a good look at Jones in the midst of his first moments as a Marvel star.

With no firm release date, the series is still in its earliest phases of filming, likely focusing on Rand’s journey back to New York. Directing this expedition and guiding the series is executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck, best known for his work on Dexter and Six Feet Under. Joining Jones so far are Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as Colleen Wing, Jessica Stroup and Tom Pelphrey as Joy and Ward Meachum, and David Wenham as Harold Meachum.

As casting announcements continue to roll in surrounding the series, there are quite a few characters that fans might expect to crossover from Marvel’s other Netflix titles: Jessica Jones‘ Jeri Hogarth is a friend of Danny’s father, and Misty Knight, confirmed to appear in Luke Cage, has an on-again, off-again romance with the martial arts master. At the top of the list of potentials is Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, who seems to function as the connecting factor between all of the Defenders‘ stories.

Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, Iron Fist, and The Defenders on Netflix have not yet been announced.
