Three massive storylines have collided together in Marvel’s Universe, creating a storm of Hulkverines, top secret symbiote super-soldiers, and the ongoing Absolute Carnage event tearing across the heroic community. Which means Absolute Carnage: Weapon Plus is going to feature action some comic fans have only dreamed of.
Readers won’t need to know the origin stories behind this different groups to appreciate the beauty of a Hulk-Wolverine hybrid taking on a squad of symbiote super-soldiers, but it will sure help (especially since it’s going to play a part in the larger Carnage-themed event). Officially, it’s just the latest wrinkle in a growing mythology, making the Weapon Plus program far more important than fans realized. And in Marvel’s official preview for Absolute Carnage: Weapon Plus #1, the origin story of the Hulkverine is about to be merged with that of symbiote super-soldiers–or as they’re designated officially, ‘Weapon V.’
Fans are recommended to read the Wolverine & Captain America: Weapon Plus one-shot which kicked off these massive changes, not to mention the Web of Venom: Ve’nam one-shot which revealed the U.S. government made symbiote super-soldiers. But to keep things simple, Steve Rogers and Logan uncovered a master list of every Weapon Plus program working in tandem. For some, it means a minor clarification on Marvel Comics canon: officially making Deadpool ‘Weapon 9,’ as originally intended by creator Rob Liefeld, for instance. But the introduction of “Project Venom,” and its test subjects deemed “Weapon V,” stood out. Finally, the extent of that program is starting to take shape.
