Marvel’s Heroes Unite With Fortnite in Epic New Comic Art

Fortnite’s crossover with Marvel Comics has been unlike anything the game has ever attempted before. Sure they’ve done crossovers, special modes, and promotional events with other properties in the past, but this is the first time they’ve dedicated an entire season to a crossover before. Entitled “The Nexus War,” the latest season of Fortnite is all about Marvel, even tying in an actual Thor comic series from writer Donny Cates. The crossover is still happening, and a new variant cover for an upcoming issue of The Avengers shows an entire ensemble of Marvel heroes side by side with Fortnite characters, presumably for the culminating battle that will be with Galactus, the World Devourer.

So far in The Nexus War, Thor has been transported to the dimension and world of Fortnite, with the cosmic conqueror Galactus right on his heels. This misadventure takes place during the events of Donny Cates’ Thor run, in which Thor and Galactus had indeed been working together to prevent the coming of the Black Winter star plague. The event even has its own issue that kicks off the beginning of the Fortnite season. In it, Thor is seeking to prevent Galactus from consuming the world, so he summons a variety of characters from his own Earth to come to his aid with the Bifrost. These heroes and rogues include Iron Man, Storm, Groot, She-Hulk, Doctor Doom, Mystique and Wolverine (who wasn’t too happy to be summoned). Together, they make up the unlockable skins players can acquire via the game’s battle pass. Not only that, but several notable Marvel locations have been transported to the Fornite map as well, such as Doom’s Domain and Stark Industries (along with a sizable chunk of upstate New York). However, the season’s not over, and more heroes could be on the way if this variant cover is any indication.

In the recently revealed wraparound variant cover for Avengers #37 from artist Mark Brooks, the playable heroes listed above are prominently featured alongside other Fortnite heroes such as Rust Lord and Galaxy Scout. However, there are some new additions to the group of heroes that have yet to be seen in-game which should excite Fornite players across the board. Here’s the variant cover art and announcement from Marvel Comics:

Your favorite Marvel heroes are currently embroiled in an epic crossover with the amazing world of Fortnite via new character skins, weapons, and even in-continuity stories in some of Marvel’s most popular titles. To celebrate this amazing teamup, Marvel Comics has debuted a series of stunning variant covers by the industry’s top artists. The latest is a gorgeous wraparound cover by superstar artist Mark Brooks, featuring Thor, Storm, Wolverine, and more bursting into action alongside popular Fortnite interdimensional travelers like Renegade Raider, Rust Lord, and Galaxy Scout. Check it out below and pick up the variant cover when AVENGERS #37 hits shops on October 14th!

As Marvel and Fornite fans alike can see, there are a couple comic heroes on the cover – such as Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther – who have yet to be seen in the game itself. Does this mean that they could eventually become skins this season of Fortnite? It’s possible. There is a section of the map that’s themed after Black Panther’s Wakanda, after all. However, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet. The new heroes’ presence on the cover could be due to the fact that all three of them are involved in the current Avengers storyline from writer Jason Aaron.

In any case, this new variant art is sure to be a must-have for both Marvel and Fortnite fans. The wraparound cover is a nice touch, which feels right considering all of the heroes featured in the art by Brooks. “The Nexus War” still has a few weeks left before it ends, and Galactus is no doubt right around the corner. Hopefully, Players will be prepared with their Marvel heroes and Fortnite skins at the ready.
