The Nevers‘ Laura Donnelly has been cast in Marvel Studios’ Halloween Special for Disney+. While no details have been revealed about the Halloween Special, it is heavily rumored to be centered around the comic book character, Werewolf by Night. Mozart in the Jungle star, Gael Garcia Bernal, has been cast in the lead role of the special.
Now, Deadline reports that Donnelly, who is one of the stars on the HBO series The Nevers and plays the role of Janet Murray on the hit Showtime series Outlander, has been cast in the Halloween special. While no details about her character have been revealed, Deadline theorizes it could be the character Nina Price, who becomes the character Vampire By Night. In the comics, Nina Price is the niece of Jack Russell, the Werewolf By Night, and has the ability to transform into a vampire or werewolf.
While nothing is confirmed, the idea of Donnelly playing Nina Price in Marvel’s Halloween Special makes a certain amount of sense given the direction the MCU is going. Blade, starring two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali will introduce vampires into the MCU after being teased in projects like Loki and Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel Studios seems to be investing heavily in their more mystical characters as Moon Knight will be arriving on Disney+ this year, and Agatha Harkness is set to get her own Disney+ series. A Ghost Rider series is rumored to be in development as well, so the introduction of both Werewolf by Night and Vampire by Night fits in with the overall plan of the MCU.
