Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Video Details Cosmo the Dog & Worldmind

In a new deep dive into the story of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the game’s developers talk about two important allies that the intergalactic outlaws will encounter. The upcoming single-player action game, developed by Eidos-Montréal, will put players in the boots of the legendary Star Lord. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will tell an epic Marvel story, featuring characters such as Lady Hellbender, the Nova Corps and the telepathic Russian astronaut Cosmo the Dog.

While Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will feature a full team of five space superheroes, only their leader Star-Lord will be controlled by the player. However, Quill can issue commands to his fellow Guardians in battle, allowing for an organized assault on their adversaries. The squad includes recognizable characters such as the deadly Gamora, the boisterous Drax, and best friends Rocket and Groot. Other past members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Mantis, Nova and Yondu, are involved in these characters’ backstories and could likely appear in the game as non-player characters.

In a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy story deep dive, posted to Twitter, executive narrative director Mary DeMarle introduces some of the team’s primary allies. Cosmo the Spacedog, a character who originated within the pages of Marvel Comics in 2008, will appear as the head of security in the space station Knowhere. Cosmo is a Russian dog with powerful telepathic abilities, allowing him to communicate with Star-Lord and the other Guardians. He appears to already be familiar with Peter Quill, and he will aid the Guardians on their adventure.

Mary DeMarle also introduces another of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s supporting characters, a supercomputer called Worldmind. This supreme being leads Xandar’s Nova Corps, a faction of space law enforcement officers who are quite prominent within Marvel Comics lore. Worldmind is composed of the memories of Xandar’s entire civilization, making it a powerful potential ally to the Guardians. Unfortunately, the heroes must learn to communicate with the artificial being before they can ask for assistance.

Alongside a plethora of allies, the space-faring squad will also encounter many villains throughout Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The first of the game’s enemies to be revealed was Lady Hellbender, a powerful planetary ruler who collects exotic alien monsters. One prominent quest will involve the Guardians brokering a deal with Hellbender, attempting to sell either Rocket or Groot to her. Grand Unifier Raker, the leader of the Universal Church of Truth, appears to be an even more nefarious foe with a mysterious agenda.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy appears to feature characters from throughout Marvel Comics’ history of cosmic storylines. While the five main Guardians will be familiar to fans of the group’s live-action appearances, additional members will appear in supporting roles. Cosmo the Dog is a beloved character, whose adorable appearance and lovable personality make him a fan favorite. Meanwhile, Worldmind could be a powerful ally for the Guardians and could introduce them to fellow superhero Nova.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will release on October 26 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
