Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy VA Answers Refrigerator Mystery

The voice actor who played Peter “Star-Lord” Quill in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy revealed that Peter himself is the one constantly leaving the refrigerator door open onboard the Milano. Eidos Montreal’s take on the ever-popular Guardians Of The Galaxy earned high praise when it launched last year thanks to its writing and humor, which masterfully captured the banter and tension among the titular band of space mercenaries as they struggle to make peace with their various inner demons and save the Marvel Universe from the cult-like Church Of Universal Truth. Peter and his team bicker, fight, and open up to each other about their tragic pasts throughout Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy‘s story, leading to several great running gags and character moments.

One of the more minor of these recurring jokes takes place onboard the Milano, Peter Quill’s trusty spaceship, which players can explore in between missions in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. In the main lounge area, there is a refrigerator that is constantly left open, leaking cold air throughout the ship as the Guardians go about their pre-mission routines. As Peter, players can close the fridge door with a button press as Quill grumbles about someone wasting precious energy – but the door will ultimately be left open once again by the time Peter returns to the room after another adventure, in one of GOTG‘s many recurring jokes. Everyone else on the ship humorously denies being the one leaving it open, but it seems that Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy players now have an answer as to who the real culprit is.

As it turns out, it’s Peter Quill himself that’s been leaving the Milano’s refrigerator door open, as confirmed by Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy voice actor Jon McClaren. According to The Gamer, McClaren revealed that Peter is subconsciously leaving the door open due to a repressed memory shown in Peter’s vision in “The Promise.” “If you go into the basement during the Promise, you’ll notice that the fridge door is open,” McClaren explained, noting that Peter’s later refrigerator habits are “some kind of PTSD fridge door opening syndrome.” Jon McClaren also revealed that he performed motion capture for another GOTG fridge-related joke where Peter closes the door, then opens it again after looking around, but this was ultimately cut from the finished game.

While Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy earned plenty of praise when it launched late last fall, the game ultimately fell short of Square Enix’s sales expectations – putting the possibility of a sequel into question despite Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy leaving the figurative door open for a follow-up title. However, this might have more to do with Square Enix’s infamous tendency to over-extend sales projections for its triple-A projects, and developer Eidos Montreal has noted that Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is seeing renewed life since it was added to Xbox Game Pass last month.

Whether Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy gets a sequel or not, there are plenty of hidden jokes and character details within the latest Marvel title – including the revelation that Peter Quill is the one leaving the refrigerator door open onboard the Milano. In addition to being hilariously ironic given that he’s the one always complaining about it, this reveal is also somewhat tragic in how it hearkens back to the day that Peter lost his mother in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.
