Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: How to Win the Bet with Rocket

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: How to Win the Bet with Rocket

In Chapter One of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket will challenge Star-Lord to a bet to see who can destroy the most alien nests in the Quarantine Zone. This bet continues through most of the level, but only some areas in the Quarantine Zone have the nests. Star-Lord will need to destroy more nests than Rocket does, but he won’t be defeated without a fight. Rocket will even resort to cheating a little to try to win.

When Chapter 1 starts, players will need to infiltrate the Quarantine Zone and plant Thumper devices to lure out a monster that the guardians want to sell to Lady Hellbender. Upon landing, there will be a few objectives to get through, including finding a charged battery for the Thumper and optionally winning the bet. After the first alien nest is destroyed, Rocket reveals he has tampered with Star-Lord’s visor to display a scoreboard and bets that he can destroy more nests than the player.

Marvel’s GotG features one playable character, Star-Lord, but a lot of the gameplay still revolves around the team as a whole and the relationships with each member. Winning the bet with Rocket in Chapter 1 is just one of the various optional activities players can complete and build rapport with their squad. The scoreboard Rocket installs will remain on the screen for most of Chapter 1 until players reach the last nest. Although the score is displayed constantly, there are only a few areas with nests, so players will need to look out for them in order to win the bet.

Winning Rocket’s Bet in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Thoroughly searching for the nests in Chapter 1 may make Marvel’s GotG take a little longer to beat, but there is an achievement associated with winning the bet. The nests are white clusters of bug-like creatures that stand out against the pink material found around the Quarantine Zone. Although players will see nests in various spots throughout Chapter 1, there are two main areas where most of the targets can be found.

The first place to find many of these nests will be just after spotting the large robot head. The path forward leads the group through the head, and inside there are dozens of nests to destroy. Rocket and Star-Lord will both make comments about the nests and the bet when entering this circular room, so it should be easy to identify. Rocket moves slowly, so Star-Lord can take out the majority of the targets in there.

The other area for players to catch up or get ahead in the bet is when the team falls and a sliding event is triggered. Aside from obstacles, there are nests scattered in the tunnel that Star-Lord can shoot at, but Rocket will try to hit them as well. Rocket will also cheat and award himself five points after one of the combat encounters, a shameless move that may make it easier to sell Rocket to Lady Hellbender later on.

To ensure victory, players should have a score of at least 25, but it shouldn’t be difficult to win as long as they are constantly looking out for the targets and listening for when the characters point the nests out. After winning the bet, players will be awarded the “Eat It, Rodent” trophy/achievement.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
