Marvel’s Echo Image Reveals First Look At Hawkeye Character’s New Costume

Marvel unveils the first look at Alaqua Cox’s Echo in the Disney+ Hawkeye spinoff series as filming begins in Atlanta for the new project. Cox made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Hawkeye as Maya Lopez, the deaf commander of the Tracksuit Mafia who was taken in and raised by Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin after the death of her father. The show primarily saw Maya hunting down Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop for their interference with the gang’s activities as well as for revenge for her father’s murder by Ronin, only to learn that Kingpin was the true culprit behind his murder.

Echo is set to explore Maya Lopez’s origin story as she escapes New York and heads to her hometown following the events of Hawkeye, which forces her to confront her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family. Alongside Cox, the cast for the MCU series is set to include Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene and the return of Zahn McClarnon as her father William from Hawkeye. Created by Marion Dayre, development on Echo was first teased in March 2021 when early discussions got underway for a spinoff centered on the character and now Marvel has an exciting update for its development.

Nearly five months after she was last seen in the MCU, Marvel Studios has announced that production on the Hawkeye spinoff series Echo has begun in Atlanta. The studio paired the production start news with the first look at Alaqua Cox’s return as Echo for the show. Check out the exciting first look image below:

Confirmation of Echo beginning production comes nearly a month after star Alaqua Cox teased on her Instagram that filming was right around the corner. Interestingly, it also comes after a production listing seemingly indicated that the show would begin rolling in April. Given Marvel’s penchant for secrecy, it seems likely that Echo did actually begin production at the end of April and the studio is only just now confirming its start with the first-look image of Cox’s return as the titular protagonist.

Following her acclaimed debut in Hawkeye, anticipation has been high for Echo, namely after costume designer Stacy Caballero seemingly revealed that Charlie Cox and D’Onofrio would make their MCU returns as Daredevil and Kingpin for the series. In addition to announcing its production start, the first-look image of Echo offers an exciting look at her new costume, donning a similar purple hue as seen in the Hawkeye finale though featuring a design departing from the comics-accurate one seen in the prior series. While audiences await Echo‘s 2023 premiere, they can revisit her MCU debut with the entirety of Hawkeye available to stream on Disney+ now.
