Marvel’s Best Spider-Man 4 Idea is a Hilarious Star Wars Rip-Off

Marvel’s Best Spider-Man 4 Idea is a Hilarious Star Wars Rip-Off

Spider-Man has had tons of successful movies, with two separate on-screen versions of the character getting their own trilogies. It’s clear that Spider-Man movies are popular, but Marvel and Sony have both struggled to go beyond just three solo movies. The concept of a fourth Spider-Man movie seems difficult to get done, but one Marvel comic offered a hilarious idea by making Spider-Man 4 a rip-off of Star Wars.

Readers got to see the amazing idea for Spider-Man 4 in 2006’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #8 by Peter David and Mike Wieringo. The story takes place on Earth-6078, an alternate timeline where Aunt May is killed instead of Uncle Ben. On this Earth, instead of Spider-Man becoming a true hero, he goes into show business with Uncle Ben.

Spider-Man’s initial appearances are mostly talk show or wrestling-related, but eventually, Spider-Man breaks into Hollywood and gets his very own series of movies. While readers don’t get to see the first three, the fourth movie sees Spider-Man fighting against Lord Doom in outer space in a very obvious Star Wars parody. To pay further homage to the movie’s inspiration, the marquee outside the theater shows that Spider-Man 4 stars Mark Hamill, who is presumably playing Lord Doom.

When Uncle Ben died, Spider-Man learned his lesson about responsibility and using his powers for the benefit of others instead of just for himself. But in this world, Aunt May dies due to an accident at home. It’s explicitly not the fault of anyone. Because of this, Peter never learns that important lesson of responsibility and decides to go into show business to try and help Uncle Ben pay his bills. This eventually leads to Spider-Man becoming a full-blown movie star, and creating his version of Star Wars to go along with it.

Marvel has been struggling to create a fourth Spider-Man movie for a while, partly due to being unable to agree with Sony on what Spider-Man 4 should actually be. While it’s likely the next Spider-Man movie will either be a multiversal story or a street-level story, in another world Marvel could make the ridiculous decision made in these comics to send Spider-Man to a galaxy far, far away. Disney currently owns Marvel, and Disney also owns Star Wars. There’s actually nothing stopping Marvel from making the absurd battle between Lord Doom, played by Mark Hamill, against Spider-Man a reality.

Fans are eager to see exactly what shape the next Spider-Man movie will take, and there’s no doubt that there will definitely be a Spider-Man 4 at some point. Spider-Man is simply too big of a character and too popular for the MCU and Sony not to make use of him. But whether the movie ends up being another giant multiversal epic or a smaller street-level story is yet to be seen. What it certainly won’t be, though, is a rip-off of Star Wars where Spider-Man uses a lightsaber to defeat Mark Hamill.
