Marvel’s Batman Is Becoming An Unlikely Avengers Ally To Stop Mephisto

Warning! Spoilers for Avengers #55 by Marvel Comics

Marvel’s Batman is getting an unlikely assist from the Avengers in his quest to stop Mephisto. In a brand new preview for Avengers #55 by Marvel Comics, Black Panther confronts Nighthawk, where the pair agree that Marvel’s devil must be stopped – as the hero offers him all the information the superteam has on the villain. In the process, an unlikely partnership is created between the former adversaries.

Nighthawk is Marvel’s pastiche of Batman, as the hero is a longtime member of Marvel’s Justice League, the Squadron Supreme. But, when Mephisto made the Squadron Supreme Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and sidelined the Avengers in the Heroes Reborn Universe, Nighthawk got a taste of what it was like to be one of the most celebrated heroes ever. Unfortunately for the hero, the Avengers would rise again and reset the timeline to its past self, leaving the Squadron Supreme members finding themselves in a world where they are searching for meaning.

In a brand new preview for Avengers #55 by Jason Aaron, Javier Garron, David Curiel, and VC’s Cory Petit from Marvel Comics, readers meet up with Marvel’s Batman, Nighthawk, who is struggling to exist in the reset universe. Nighthawk reflects on his wealth and life being a lie concocted by Mephisto, as the Squadron Supreme split up after realizing they were part of the ruse. However, Nighthawk’s attempts to get revenge are thwarted by Black Panther, who wants to know why he resigned as American’s ambassador to Wakanda.

Black Panther isn’t ready to give up on Nighthawk, even if he is. Instead, he tells Marvel’s Batman that they have a common goal in wanting to stop Mephisto, revealing that Marvel’s devil is trying to conquer the Multiverse. While Nighthawk refuses the team-up offer with the Avengers, Black Panther still provides him with all the information he has on Mephisto’s whereabouts while telling him he’s willing to offer him a helping hand.

While Nighthawk misses being Marvel’s Batman, the offer from Black Panther to work alongside the Avengers isn’t one he should reject. The hero believes he has no meaning in the current Marvel Universe after departing from the Squadron Supreme, but fighting alongside the Avengers and getting revenge on Mephisto could be a significant turning point for him. Accepting Black Panther’s helping hand and taking down Mephisto would give him much-needed purpose and make him the hero he always thought he was in the Heroes Reborn universe. Readers will find out if Nighthawk teams up with the Avengers when Avengers #55 by Marvel Comics arrives in comic book stores and online retailers on Wednesday.
