Marvel’s 616 Disney+ Trailer Explores Obscure Villains & Comics Secrets

Disney+ has shared two exclusive clips from the upcoming original docuseries Marvel 616. The new series will debut on the streaming service this fall giving fans deeper looks and perspectives into all facets of the Marvel Universe. The number 616 is itself a reference to the designation Earth-616, which is the primary continuity in which most of the Marvel comic titles take place.

According to Marvel, each episode is a standalone documentary, led by a unique filmmaker, and explores everything from making comics to cosplay within the frame of the Marvel Universe. The first clip is from the episode titled “Higher, Further, Faster” directed by actor/director Gillian Jacobs, which shines a light on the women of Marvel Comics who have worked over the last 81 years to bring stories of representation and inclusion to fans.

The second clip is from the Paul Scheer-directed episode Lost and Found following the actor and comedian’s journey to discover the forgotten characters of Marvel Comics. Individually, each documentary in this series tells a compelling story that brings its filmmaker’s vision to life. With how big the Marvel Cinematic Universe has gotten in recent years, Marvel’s 616 offers fans of not only the comics but the movies a chance to take a deeper dive into the company’s storied legacy. Given the interviews on display in these two videos, there’s sure to be plenty of interesting information about Marvel for Disney+ users.

The entire Marvel 616 panel from the virtual Comic-Con@Home event “A Look Inside Marvel’s 616” featuring Jacobs, Scheer, and executive producers Sarah Amos and Jason Sterman with moderator Angélique Roché (host of Marvel’s Voices and The Women of Marvel Podcasts) is now available to watch.
